Default Have I munched a cam??

Hi folks..

Sorry to post what has been posted to death as i've found by searching on here but........

Went out for a quick run in the S2 tonight as the weather's been nice for once and..

Started up no probs as usual, no noises out of the ordinary and after about 15 mins of steady driving once the oil was warm. It's developed a clicking/ticking from what appears to be the top end. However its not noticable at idle but very obvious when under load on or off boost.

I can only liken it to sounding like a Beetle!! ARGH>>>This can't be good for a CVH!

Oil pressure is good and topped up as checked tonight and I had the followers out about a month ago to check them and they were totally mint. No concaving or wear visible at all.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks.

Could also be the exhuast gasket blowing, look for sooty 'spray' marks around it, you'll know what I mean if you see it, and also just check the manifold nuts are tight.

Thanks Karlos! Thats a very good point as I've recently put a stainless tubular manifold on the car and it may need re-torquing!

Thanks again!

Well its back to banging my head aginst a wall!!

Spent the last couple of hours checking things over, manifold etc seems fine. Checked the cambelt which was somewhat slacker than I would like. So, re-tensioned that.
Great call ste45! Thanks!

Fired it up and went for a drive and it's still blinkin well making the noise!
Its difficult to describe but there's no knocks occuring and it doesn't sound like tappetts.

I can hear the tappetts ticking away fine with no probs but the sound it makes is very high pitched. Well above the pitch of the valve train..

Any ideas or abuse welcome! Thanks!

check the alternator mate mine was making a hell of a noise thought bottom end had gone at first but just turned out to be alternator bearing , get a piece of wood with your ear at one end and alt at the other you will be amazed at how much this allows you to hear!!
