most cost effective managment for a series 2
Hi Guys I have a series 2 rst and am looking to get to around the 230-250bhp mark and was just trying to decide whats the most cost effective management route to go I know cossie and gotech are good but also cost about £1000 fitted but would like to know whats the most cost effective managment to go with in terms of remapping for future mods ect and whats the best reliability wise, I am on MFI at the moment and know full well that mfi is hit or miss over a GENUINE 200bhp so would like to see what you think,
My spec at the moment is as follows, I know I have a few more mods to go to get to my desired power:
1658 low comp engine (built 1k ago)
airtech fmic
full 2.5 inch exhaust
ahmed bayjoo chip
piper 285 cam
minor headwork (not sure of exact spec)

15psi
I have oil & water swirl pots and samcos ect ect.

whats the differnce between efi and cossie management then?
sorry not trying to rob ur thread rstel1 just thought it may help decide between efi and cossie set ups (plus helps me lol)

i can't believe someone can say that an efi setup is crude compared to a 5th injector setup for the level of engine you have!
go for any efi conversion be it webber, gotech, omex, earls etc.
they will be 10 times better than any 5th injector plus you will defo make the 230bhp mark safely!

I dont only mean the initial outlay, as said i know they are rouighly 1k to have fitted i mean in terms of re mapping/tunning for future mods ect. the idea is to try and keep my rst as an affordable as poss without cutting corners.

I've found that life I needed.. It's HERE!!
When I go EFi I'm going Omex. Good product that is well respected by all. Omex 600 can be had for around £600. Fitting it isn't worse than any other management and any tuner worth their weight are able to map Omex. If I had to choose something else, I'd say Megasquirt. Damn versatile and efficient system that, many diferent cars run it and it's got a worldwide following due to its open source nature.
I don't think I'd do Cossie management, purely because it's done to death. I like to be a bit diferent and have a challenge. If I had any advice for you, it would be to go for what you want, not what everyone else has!

My friend has fitted Emerald ECU to his 1900 CVH long block RS 1600i turbo with some good results.

i run gotech mfi pro and it has been great totall different car from mfi and i only paid about £1200 fitted and mapped with a new pipercross air fitter and samco hose from the turbo to air fitter

Hi! I have escort s2 turbo with megasquirt managment, i have also innovate lc-1 wb lambda system. Megasquirt drives bosch wasted spark ignition coil and i use EFI escort intake manifold & bosch 380cc ev-6 type injectors. CPS is honeywell hall sensor with 12-1 trigger wheel installed in crank pulley.
My car runs with very very good MPG and car was easy to map and working perfect. It is pretty cheap system too. And what is most important, you can map it yourself and whenever you want.
I think my components cost:
ECU assembled 200£
LC-1 wb 130£
Trigger wheel & sensor 50£
Efi intake manifold complete 70£
Wiring harness,connectors 20£
Injectors 130£
Installation depends do you install it yourself or how.
I can well recommend megasquirt! I Currently run 15psi of boost with standard t03 turbo.
Scatter pretty nice? ; )

The best thing with megasquirt is that it keeps improving constantly. The newest software versions have full sequential injection and ignition with individual trims etc. just as an example.

I was thinking goin different management but was put off my jamsport as was told there was no idle control using gotec!!! I didnt think that would be the case as it would conk out at every traffic light etc. How do you find it Bryan?

if you use a fietsa efi manifold it has a idle contral valve on the side of it and they could use that but i do not use a idle contral valve on the side of the manifold and me idels fine and does not conk out at traffic lights

the base Gotech ecu has not got idle valve but you done need it on the escort rs turbo as you keep the stock one that is already there, which isnt actually an idle control valve, its a very "crude" air by pass valve that works off a temp sensor, and in turn switches off when warm.
an idle valve is only used on cold start to pull up idle from cold so once it has got warm then its not needed
the ecu can pull up idle in the ignition table to get around this if it has not got a idle valve like on a thotle body set ups. We have fitted gotech to hundereds of rst's over the years with great results.
If you wanted to run a PWM control for an idle control valve (not fitted to the RST as standard, however you can retro fit a Zetec one) then the gotech Mini X or Pro X have the control for this, with the mini x still using the hall effect pick up in the dizzy, hence keeping costs down on installation.
When we map the gotech mfi std, there are many correction tables, voltage, air temp and coolant temp, these all play a part with the idle, when they are set right the car will pull up its idle when necessary to prevent any cutting out, it is in effect its own idle control valve.
It is very rare we get a complaint that a car cuts out when idling, and when this is the case a quick call can soon resolve this.

Omex seem to offer some very serious package imo but then it depends on how much you want to spend.
Here in Malta it has become very common to use Piggyback chips as it's easy to install and can be tuned by anyone who has a decent knowledge. Those who opt for pro packages then go for either Lumenition or DTA and the 1/4 mile times they do on these management are simply amazing.
