finally started on my escort underneath but im needing to know whats the best stuff for cleaning off the gunk

Before you start i would jack it up spray it all under neath with truck wash (tfr) and jet it all down this will get most of the oil grease road grime off ,then you can use petrol or thinners after that on a cloth to get the residue off

i bought swarfega jizer its the dogs danglies and i used a wire buffer to take the paint down to the metal underneath!! im about halfway through it but im doing it nice not twice lol

Once youve cleaned it all up could it be painted with hammerite?

Unless your going to spray it underneath ,i would stoneguard it first then you can brush paint over this, and the brush marks wont be seen

due to me havin 2 catastrphic sump gasket failures, the underside of my car had a thick coating of damp to the touch oil, so i didnt even need any cleaning products, most the underside of my car cleaned back to the factory finish with old rag

took me about an hour in the pit, was well chuffed lol

i wont be spraying it i would like to just have it protected for years to come and a similar colour to the car

cant beat a clean underside.would do it to every rs i had just for peice of mind atleast.heres what it started like.i just had a wire brush attachment on a drill then petrol soaked cloth to get rest of.few coats of hammerite white rolled on


and here it is now.not the best but least i know its solid etc.

my wire wheel is taking it down to the bare metal lol so i know when its down to the bone and its sealed up that it wont rust for a while anyway

I used a cutting disc on a grinder to lift sound deadening inside...didn't take long but made a mess, plan to do the same underneath then petrol rag to clean Stevenebm - did you powdercoat them wishbones? What bushes did you use?

keith yeh i got them all powder coated.i put cheaper bushes in to see what they were like but they were crap.just fitted new powerflex bushes at the weekend there and what a differance it is.bushes are now purple and black.

some photos here buddy ive got a lot of work to do lol and ive just bought a renault 5 turbo so il have to invest in a sleeping bag for late nights at the garage ha ha
