i had this problem on my S1...was the dizzy body losing spark. Happened on my S1 a year later and was the fuel pressure regulator...was losing pressure when the car was slowing down causing the car to cut out.

May be running lean as this is what white plugs indicate?

Is the system air tight from the fuel pump to the inlet valve? Plenum gasket etc as a slight air induction in the wrong place with MFI can cause problems even the dipstick and oil cap have to be a good seal.

Martin.

Who really gives a flying fuck how he speaks.
