Default New engine help

Ive put a fully rebuild 1650 complete engine in my s2 RST an so far all has been well but when i drove it today i realised that when im backing off the throttle the tappets are quite noisey. On idle its totally silent tho. Is this cos theres a thick mineral running in oil init? Its only done 9miles but i dont wanna fuck it. Any help or advice would be much appreciated

I'd be careful there mate....
It shouldnt be as it's freshly built but it could be your big ends as they will rattle when you back off if they are fooked!

Yeah the crank was ground and it has a new oil pump. Everything is brand new, the engine cost me almost Ł1600! The engine builder said the noise will clear but the engine sat around for ages after he built it an i should have primed the hydrulics before i started it. That sound right?
I drove it for about 25miles last night an it did quite down alot

If the hydraulics are bone dry they will take forever to fill properley if they havent been soaked overnight, found this out on my very first engine built many moons ago!

ONLY If you are confident that it is the lifters, then once its warm raise the revs to bring up the oil pressure, this sorted it on mine.
