I didnt run one until i dropped an exhaust washer many moons ago, only to find out it had found its new home between the belt and bottom pulley, cambelt snapped on startup.

I had the clear one on my CVH, but now its gone to a ZVH the thing doesnt seen to fit right! I'll give it another go tomorrow as washers and stones in between the belt and pulleys really dont seem too appealing lol

I would say you should leave it on, as said if something gets thrown up from the road and ends up in there you screwed. I dont see the point in not having one, whats the advantage??

Had 7 turbos. 2 have been destroyed because of small stones getting between belt and bottom pulley coming up from under engine bay whilst driving on motorway. A lot of money spent on these engines, never heard of a performance cam belt snapping before. Plus it didnt help with the audi tt throwing the bastards in the air!!!! My advice....leave the cover on, peace of mind when you have a lot of money under the bonnet!

You increase the risk of cam belt failure by not running one.. pretty simple really

I've heard mixed opinions. People say if you get a stone in while running a cambelt cover it's harder to escape...

Also heard the other side of the coin if you don't run a cover and get a stone in, the belt should flick it away!

i never used to run 1, mostly because i was so proud of my shiny new piper vernier lol. plus lazyness, lets not forget that

but on my new engine, i shal fit 1, cant afford the financial risk of damage to new engine, but none of this clear perspex cover stuff, personally i think it just looks a bit cheap n tacky, would much sooner run a standard item, maybe just painted with a modification here n there

I know this is about Escort RS Turbos, but does the same apply to Sierra Sapphires? Or do Saffs have strange anti-stone properties??

I've seen loads of cossies running without, so im guessing you'll be fine. Same goes with the RST's though, loads of them go without too. Im now guessing its down to your own piece of mind really.

The cover i have won't fit properly since converting over to ZVH... I dont know why, but it just wont! On the CVH it was a struggle getting the bolt closest the bulkhead to go in line, but eventually it went in. So maybe thats just it again, not sure.

The bolts that come with the clear perspex cover are longer, yes. You should have had some sent with it when you bought it, but if not, and as said, just give the guy an email and im sure he will send some out. The rubber that is being mentioned is the rubber seal off the original cambelt cover. Just take it off the original cover and put on the new cover - simple job

Did you manage to get the cover to fit on your ZVH?
I'm looking to do the same but didn't want to buy one if it doesn't fit.
cheers
