Just started to piece my new engine back together and noticed something extra on the new head???

The old head has just the slight raised bit where the inlet bolts onto.

whereas the new head has got a large protrusion with a threaded hole for something :s


anyone know what thats all about?

 

just had a look at mine up stairs and it's the same as the one in bottom pic maybe difference is early and late heads i.e series 1 against series 2

 

yeah i was going to suggest maybe series 1 and series 2 head differences, as the series 1 had a much different inlet manifold, that 2 piece arrangement

 

was it the series one that came with the 2 piece inlet manifold?

cos thats what i have and its come out of a E reg S2?

 

Wot is the date stamp on the back of the head??

 

i shall have to have a look 2moro, i dont fancy braving the snow anymore today, bit cold in the garage lol
