yeah there was a tapping noise that started few weeks ago...it was overheating i just didnt ever get round to replacing the radiator.i changed the morettes back to standard front lights, and put a series 2 bumper on it and whacked recaros in there..i needed to get the front bumper sprayed though.

Did ya check the oil level when you first noticed the tapping noises? And did these tappingnoises get worse just before the engine went Bang... as in right before, not weeks
Engine temperatures rising can be a lot more than just the radiator too...

Welcome to the real world of owning a Ford lol

Sounds like you may have run out of oil! Was it actually on the floor (the oil) when you broke down or did you check the dip stick and find nothing there?

Oh! If you did run it dry mate then the engine is scrap, would need a complete rebuild! Everything from the cam to the crank

Take Stu's offer of that XR3 engine and gearbox for Ł30, thats your best bet IMO!

Where you giving it some when it happened? You may have thrown a rod through the block! Not many ways for the oil to drop out!

1.6 cvh on carb mate, will be a straight swap for yours, and they can be pretty quick too when you do a little work.

looks a clean car - tidy for your 1st one - as been already said, losing all the oil on the floor isnt your head gasket. get the front jacked up ON STANDS and have a look underneath, clean away oil and see where it came from, then you can make a informed decision on what course of action to take. No good buying things you might not need if youre short on cash. wouldnt bother putting an rs lump in as your age, insurance will skank you. if you can fix the car and run for a few years to build your no claims up. lads your age always keen to get fast engines etc in their cars ! we were all there once !!!

600 a year for my rs at 19 ? considering my mates pay over a g for the likes of 1.1 saxos then i think its cheap as, dont think they class the rs as sports car now anyway more of a classic, people my age arnt all tits in cars, i stick to 30 round the towns,
