supposed to stop turbo "stall" which knackers them. I also think that the back pressure when the throttle is closed which fooks the metering head on mfi!..... however there are probably hundreds will say it don't!

personally I will put up with the shite noise for the rumoured safety factor.

I always think my cars run quicker with a dump valve (less turbo spool time?) but thats just me!

put it on, it dosent hurt, but youll soon get sick of it. I know you can buy electric ones that you can turn on or off, they cost more but will keep you sane

If the noise is the main concern, look at a recirculating type that vents back into the intake system.

think its pointless on MFI, if this was not the case why did ford not put one on?

It induces an air leak into the car, and you can prove this as not all dump valves will work, put a diaphragm dump valve on a RSTurbo and the car will idle very badly.

As for prolonging the life of your turbo, where is the evidence for this ?
I also doubt that most RS turbo owners run enough boost to consider compressor stall to be a major problem.

The real deciding factor imho is do you want your car to sound like a bus

Best thing to do mate is fit it and drive it, then remove it and drive it.
I would say that you will see your car being more responsive if fitted correctly.
i have done this and found it to be better with a dump valve, but then i have only owned about 15 rst's so thats my opinion(put it on mate)

i removed the one fitted to my car when i got it, they drive me mad

As Turbocabbie says its just a glorified air leak on a system that relies on pressure to run properly.

but its down to you at the end of the day, some people run them and love them.

only if you have the wrong one fitted.
If you run 10 psi or above i would say fit the correct dumpvalve for your car.

I remember my series 1 had 1 before the days of twin piston dumpvalves, it had a electronic control module which you could adjust to get tick over correct, it wouldn't dump if the headlights were on, sidelights and it would, If I adjusted it to dump with lights on it wouldn't idle correctly,

This is not true, the very fact that that you have to have a specific dump valve proves that there is a problem with them on this management.
Upon idle the vacuum will attempt to open the dump valve on a RST this is fact. In order to resolve this issue specific dump valves had to be made.
The right dump valve you mention is a bodge to over come this.

I run over 20 PSI without a dump valve and have no problems, I do not consider my car to be unresponsive

I have one fitted, ran without it for a week or two, then refitted it, no difference in the way the car drives IMO!

No tuner has ever advised me to fit one to mine (in 12 years of ownership).
Even though they could have said yes, taken the money and ran!
IMO most of them sound stupid too

Worst mod for an RST, would sooner fit a bleed valve to the heater controls

The fact most people run the DV26 as well, BOV's sound good but the queer tshhh does my nut.

so from most of the opinons here dump valve's dnt do squat! just marmite noise u either luv it or hate it!!! so i suppose it all goes on prefrence. the people runnin big power here that havent got them fitted an dnt want them they cant be much of a safety item for turbos coz nobody would pay stupid money for a huge turbo an not have one to help keep the thing alive for aslong as pos! bhp wise there's nothin they do i take it?
i dnt if anyone else feels the same but sumdays i like it sumdays i hate it but i cant have both so.... thanks for all the opinions guys.
