Turbo and exhaust manifold help please
Hi everyone i have a quick question that hopfully some one can help me with.
On an rs turbo the exhaust manifold where it bolts to the turbo that flang points towards the front
Like this....
im looking in to buying a manifold where the flang points down
like this....
in order to use with my T3 turbo im guessing i have to unbolt it and turn it round.
my question is once i have turn't it round will i have to get the turbo balanced?
Thanks for you help
Danny

No, you can rotate the housings without the need to rebalance. It's the core thats balanced prior to being installed in the housings.
That said, good luck getting the housings to move!! LOL.

Thanks for you help.
Why do they weld them self together then?
i have a new stage 3 turbo to suit so shouldn't be to hard... i hope!
not cheap hence why i was worried about balancing ect

The new turbo shouldn't be too hard to rotate, just don't loosen the bolts any more than you need to. It's not the end of the world, just prevents damage to the blades. I would loosen the bolts that fix the exhaust housing to the core, then bolt the turbo to the manifold and get the core in the right place. Then tighten that up, before tackling the compressor housing. Make sure you get everything nice and tight, but don't forget the compressor housing is aluminium, so don't over-tighten as you'll pull the threads!

I dont get it. Stuart Collins wrote that you will need a cosworth rear housing to get it to fit the manifold. And than some of you guys write that it will work with a standard turbo, all you need is to turn the compressor housing a little bit?
i would take a guess tht the exhaust will point the wrong way also with having to spin it round?
If I have the turbocharger in my hand and fit it on the flange on the new manifold, the "elbow" will go towards the engine, wont it?

I'm doing the same at the moment.
Bought a cossie exhaust housing and put it on my stage 3 t3.
Just have to make a bracket fot the actuator.
Does anyone have a pic of this ?
thanks
