Like this....

im looking in to buying a manifold where the flang points down

in order to use with my T3 turbo im guessing i have to unbolt it and turn it round.
my question is once i have turn't it round will i have to get the turbo balanced?

No, you can rotate the housings without the need to rebalance. It's the core thats balanced prior to being installed in the housings.

That said, good luck getting the housings to move!! LOL.

Yes - if you want to change your manifold you have to take the turbo off not hard can just be a bit fiddily some times

The new turbo shouldn't be too hard to rotate, just don't loosen the bolts any more than you need to. It's not the end of the world, just prevents damage to the blades. I would loosen the bolts that fix the exhaust housing to the core, then bolt the turbo to the manifold and get the core in the right place. Then tighten that up, before tackling the compressor housing. Make sure you get everything nice and tight, but don't forget the compressor housing is aluminium, so don't over-tighten as you'll pull the threads!

No, you don't spin it like that! LOL. It still points the same way.

I dont get it. Stuart Collins wrote that you will need a cosworth rear housing to get it to fit the manifold. And than some of you guys write that it will work with a standard turbo, all you need is to turn the compressor housing a little bit?

i would take a guess tht the exhaust will point the wrong way also with having to spin it round?

If I have the turbocharger in my hand and fit it on the flange on the new manifold, the "elbow" will go towards the engine, wont it?

You would need a cossie type exhaust housing, a modified downpipe for it and a modified wastegate actuator mounting plate.
