fan switch i guess
my fan doesnt come on when the car gets hot, the switch is the plug that goes on the thermostat right? i bridge the connections on the switch and the fan starts spinning so does this mean switch is faulty?? also, the temperature gauge in the car said it was probably just under half way, had a look in the header tank and its bubbling like the water is boiling is this normal?? it takes ages for the car to heat up if im driving along, it usually stays in the blue area of the gauge is this too cold??

Just sounds like the fan switch is not kicking in. If you are briging the terminals and teh fans are coming on then obviously its either the switch or the cars not getting hot enough, which if left to sit and tick over I doubt very much.
What would worry me most is bubbles in the header tank. If the sytem is under pressure, ie. you havnt realeased the header cap then its either a coolant system leak or the head gasket is fucked (which is technically the same thing).

I would imagine from what he said in the 1st post the temp gauge never getting to half way that it is not getting hot enough to kick in the fan.
I think what he means by the header tank bubbling is that the water is getting hot enough to make it bubble, not that the system is pressurising

if left to sit and idle the temp gauge will go right up to the red and the fan will not start, i know that there is a thermostat in there so i guess i need a new switch then...
its just i can start the car from cold and if i drive a few miles without stopping too much it will barely go out of the blue part of the gauge and i never recall it doing that before...
the gauge was about halfway up when i took the cap off the header tank and it was bubbling like when your kettle is just about to flick off and again i dont recall that ever happening before or am i just worrying too much?? lol
i have thought it could be head gasket but im not losing water and the oil in it is normal...
i also for some reason have no boost now lol but its too dark to check why... anyway does anyone know a decent garage as close to portsmouth as possible that i can drive like my grandma to so that i can get it checked and set up or whatever lol, fed up of guessing things now...
