Default HELP! setting gear linkage

Its a S2.

I know to put car in 4th, loosen bolt.

Turn shaft in box clockwise then push all way in. (making sure you dont hit reverse)

Bit I cant get is, use 3.5mm drill bit to lock gear selector.

Where the hell do I put the drill bit???? any pics would be a great help or a detailed discription (in laymans terms LOL)

i slackened off the bolt, then selected all gears, inc reverse then put it in neutral and tightened it up again, it was 90%. so i did it again and its 99% now. i didn't know there was a way to "set it" so to speak.

found it, its right onthe bottom of the selector housing on underside of car.

Id say more like a 4mm drill needed than a 3.5mm though, it was a bit small, I had to get my lass to lie under the car and hold it in place whilst I tightened nut up at other end

You boys are making hard work out of this. I just put the 'box into third (once you get under there and put it in neutral and turn your brain on, it's not that hard to work out where third is), then put the shifter linkage on and tighten it, but still allowing it to be moved. Then jump in the car and move the gearstick to roughly where you think third should be, then tighten the linkage. Try it out, see what it feels like, then tweek from there as required.

there is no diffrence mate, the topic I wrote is for a 5 spedd box, that i what I have also.

What you undo is the bolt on the end of the gear linkage that attatches to the shaft on the gearbox.

look underneeth the car at the gearbox, you cant miss it.

Does the shaft not centralise itself when in neutral anyway? It did on my iB5.

clockwise and in = 5th gear ; this is what should be used with the locking pin.
