Default why....

Do some turbo engines look different than others? i.e some have a grilled rocker cover? some have turbo writen on the charger carrier some have ford on it some have nothing? and why do some have a fuel metering unit n it looks like some otehrs dont?

bit of a thick question but i gotta ask.

whats the diff between efi n mfi ??? how do i no what mine is? it has the meterin unit i no that much!!

if i bought a diff unit would it need settin up to my engine/fuel managment or just fit strate on and work?

ok... every company have own reasons.

efi is electric fuel injection, MFI is mehanical. you cannot just swap efi for mfi and drive, and this really isnt "do it yourself" job.

The grilled rock covers are from people who are running a different engine; The turbo on the charge carrier is off a Fiesta and with ford logo of a escort; EFI doesn't need a metering unit and MFI does

EFI = Electric fuel injection
MFI = Mechnical fuel enjection, so thats where the metering unit is for

Have a look with the search funtion theres alot of this to find on the forum!

cheers

changing from mfi to efi isnt rocket science in fact its quit easy to swap over and much better.

the grilled rocker cover sounds like its from an rs 1600i which is not a turbo, but can be fitted to a turbo, just has no threads for the charge pipe! efi is so much smoother and reliable than mfi ! the best upgrade you could do to an erst !

So whats the deal with swapping? is it same fitting etc? would i need a diff loom?

coz im sure its the metering unit thats bolloxed on this. infact it must b coz when i got the car off mate he had left it stood for a bit in his garden with no filter on the meterin unit so it got full of water. so when i got it to mine i took it of dried n blew it out. oil change plugs out turned it over no water came out newhere like. sandblasted the plugs cleaned them put it all back together fired it up n it run ok at 1st then went shit and could smell flooding. he said he been turning a alenkey screwe behind the the padal on the unit?

just cant get it to run right at all at the mo.

The rs bible tells you all about it mate but its not hard to do,if you had all the bits you could do it over a weekend easy.If the allen key you are talking about is behind the black box on the metering head then im sure that only controls fueling when on boost but could be wrong.That was the reason i changed to efi,my metering unit bolloxed up also and couldnt be bothered with the hastle of sorting it out so just went to efi instead,best move i ever made.
