Default Relay problems and missfiring

Could someone please explain to me what the four relays under the dashboard on the drivers side (green, blue, grey and pink) are for. I think the green one is for ABS, and have got a problem with this one as it keeps blinking on the dash and clicking. I have also got a problem with an intermittant missfire, and the car hesitates every now and then and misfires. Could this be an alternator problem. Car is standard, never been touched, 1988 model series II.
