Would you be prepared to have the cage come through the bulkhead to connect to the front strut tops?

Would you have the bars across the doors?

There is a nice shiney death trap going in the for sale section

get a weld in 1 imo, thats what id like to change over to and might next year if the cars gonna be kept,

not only for top speed but any accident would not be good in a 20yr old car let alone a high speed accident

do it once, do it properly mate, the prices for weld in aint as bad as youd think (well i dont think so anyway)

Think the safety devices ones go in with the dash in place - as that's what i've been looking at

id have a weld in cage if money was no object

i have a safety devices cage but i think i might get it welded in & bars welded to the top mounts
but the only reason i picked the safety devices is cos i didnt want to cut a good dash up but i would buy an omp bolt in cage as safety devices arent FIA approved as where omp are, but i never knew that when i baught it

So, the OMP bolt-in one goes through the dash? Does it go through in such a way that its possible to make a nice job of it?

My dash is fairly easy to get out now. I'm insistent that I'm keeping the interior. I want it to stay as nice to drive as it is now.

Ive got a Roll Centre one for my (Mk3) track car that penetrates the dash, and is FIA approved.
TBH i wasnt too impressed with the design or fit of it. The rear cage seemed slightly twisted, but i made it fit. Even then, with the feet bolted in the right places, the B-pillar hoop is about half an inch over towards the offside.
Also, i dont like where the A and B pillar feet come down- they sit on the floor a few inches in from the sill. i.e they bolt through the floor where it is at its most flimsy- not close to the sill. I sorted this by fabricating some (Roughly L-shaped) brackets that welded onto the sill, and then came out to the roll cage feet. The roll cage then bolts through these. Then i triangulated them for strength.
So now after a bit more work than originally intended i'm relatively happy with it.
I also have a Mk4 dash fitted, and wrecked one getting it to fit neatly. The second one went well though, having learnt from the first one... Where the A pillar bar comes down on the drivers side, it sort of goes through the edge of the instrument binacle. Most of the tube goes through the grey top part of the dash, but i had to take a small semi-circular cut out of the clock surround just above where the fuel computer would sit too.

Roll Centre also do a "Universal Front Triangulation Kit", which i bought and fitted. Its basically 4 lengths of un profiled tube, with some fancy bracketry. You cut and profile the tubes to suit and weld it in through the bulkhead to the turrets (Fuse box must be relocated). It then fixes to the main cage via some bolt on brackets, so the main cage can still be removed (Unbolted) if required.

No pics of any of this i'm afraid- the main cage and dash are not currently fitted as the car is upside down on a spit Hopefully it'll be the right way up in the new year

Sorry if the above is a bit jumbled, its early and i'm in a rush...

I think you have to cut holes in the dash for the OMP cage?

I've got a safty devices rear cage in my mk3 and it has the option to connect the front part of the cage (if i had one) But Safty devices dont exist anymore do they???

Ive got a roll centre 6 point roll cage and you can specify whether you want the cage to go behind or infront of the dash.

Hope that helps.

Christain

How far do you want to travel and how deep are your pockets?

I can get you a proper custom welded cage for about Ł1000 which aint cheap but half the price of mine.

Trust me it will work and look better than ANY of the off the shelf stuff!
