got a single piston one myself - had to use it with my old sidedraught turbo setup as sudden boost spikes when letting off caused the float bowls to dump fuel and run overly rich which caused a bog when nailing the accelerator again

dunno if im gonna fit it on me EFI Gotech T34 , havent really got space as im using the std xr3 rad with a FMIC , piping is tight

they are fitted by manufacturers to stop the map sensor seing boost spikes and dumping juice which will affect oxy readings during inspections and use extra juice

also useful for letting wankers in their hot na hatches know to piss right off!!!

Rubbish. A bloke down the pub told me they protect the turbo and give you 30bhp more. It must be true as he has a Saxo.

A bloke down my pub told me that, he's got an electric one fitted and they add a bit more than 30bhp apparently

In all honesty DV's are an aquired thing like marmite, you either like the sound and have one, or you dont like the sound and dont have one.

This topic gets very heated every time it's brough up doesn't it!!!

hardly fair in 2 instances,
1: 8psi isnt going to do much whatever happens most of us run 15-20
2: erst's were early days for this lark, if it was built now it would have 1 (as new turbo cars generally do-frs) doesnt mean it dont need 1, ersts need lots of things that wernt fitted as std, technology moves on and we look back and say, wish i knew then what i know now

Why not, the evidence that its not actually there suggests its not necessary as dump valves were available at that time, I have seen no evidence to suggest they are actually necessary

I have some cheap twin piston DV and only bad thing about them are bangs from exhaust, because air get out of inlet mainfold. dont know if this afecting driving, power... idle is same as before, driving is same. I dont measure times so dont know is there any looses or gains. It would be great to make some little test of DV on few RST, measure 0-60 with and without DV...

Well for what my 10 years of RST ownership is worth.......dump valves are for Gays, end off.I ran 19 PSI boost for many's a year making much more powerfull cars look very silly, and never once ran a DV.Car was set up by Mark Shead, who knows a bit about RST's and he told me that running a dumpvavle was a waste of money and effort!!So if you're 19 yrs old, think you know it all, then go ahead, use a DV....Regards,Micky

It's not really bitching mate. If you like the noise and want one then get one, just don't expect any of the so called turbo serving benefits that they are supposed to offer

RIGHT TAKE NOTE OF THIS FOR YOUR OWN SAKE

No you can't buy a chatter as so many of you put it just remove the dump valve and you will hear it end of,

Yes it still does it on mfi and some do it louder than others depending on boost level you are running.

all t series turbo apart from the t4 they dont produce enough back pressure to need a dump valve but they are a must on gt series turbos, the chatter is the air the engine does'nt consume getting cut up by the turbo blades.

has anyone ever thought about fitting a recirculating valve to an rs turbo?

It could be piped back to the pipe between the turbo and the metering head (the suction side of things)............ there must be a reason why i have never seen it done.

also by not running a dump valve are you not more likely to bend your metering head when the back pressure occurs......or is it far enough away for the air not to be turbulent in the metering head? and have I just answered my own question about the recirculating valve?

not a case of people thinking about doing it as more a case of it's a waste of time. people only fit dump valves to stamdard rst's cos they think it sounds cool. why would the same person fit a recirc that won't make the ppttsshh sound that they want. it won't make the car more reliable or better to drive. thats propbably why it hasn't been seen.
