Hi mate, my brother bought it once about 5 years ago from a guy who was running a Ford RS website his user name I think was Sluge from Wolverhampton he had it all restored a few years back and it looked good from all the pictures but me and my brother viewed the car in the dark and bought it, the biggest mistake we ever made in the day light the car was a pile of shite, bodywork was not that good the electrics were fucked we spent £300 sorting that out the alarm was fucked had to sort that out another £250 and the engine had a S1 bottom end with a S2 topend and a diesal gearbox, the whole engine was badly put together the whole car was a cheap cowboy job all over, my brother had it stored away for about a year but sold it off to some one in Scotland we lost about a grand plus the extra money trying to put it right, the car was in grey with twin headlights and cream leather at the time. The car had a bad life a complete mess. What's it like now ?

I wasn't going to reply to this, but feel that I should. I am so sorry to have heard that you had some issues with the car and i feel really bad to be reading this.

The car had been mot'd very recently prior to you buying it.
Yes you saw it in the dark but that was because you was late
You wanted the bonnet redone which was done
You wanted the alarm redone which was done.
All electrics were ok as far as a I am concerned. I have the pictures to show that all electrics worked.

You had been through all of my pictures of the car and in terms of the bodywork i did say that i wasn't 100% happy myself in certain areas and you would of course seen the pctures i put up of some of the areas I wasn't happy with as per below

You was told it had a S1 bottom end.
I genuinely did not know it was a diesel gearbox
You came back for it after you had been in it and you was happy.

I feel for your frustration i reallly do, and if maybe you had come back to me i would have or could have helped but as far i was concerned it was all okay, and you was happy. I never heard from you again.

It seems that everyone has messed now, and created more issues etc.

The shell was bought from Just Affords and was repainted
The bottom end was sourced and built by PJ motorsport

That car was the worst car I have ever sat in! And that is saying something as I am a car dealer and have had all sorts of junk come in part exchange in the past 20 yrs, it was totally bodged together and should have got a red ticket at MOT time not an MOT.

It looked nice in the photos (that why I bought it), the paintwork was quite good but everything else was totally shagged and it should have been crushed. I sold it for spares lost about £1500.

When it arrived with me (bought unseen, I was buying about 10 cars a month un-seen from large dealers) this is what it needed;

would not run - needed fuel pump and metering unit and new battery
got it running and it actually needed a new bottom end as was knocking
turbo did not boost at all - presumed fucked
electrics did not work - no indicators, guages, ignition light - all fucked
elec windows didnt work
had been clocked according to vosa mot check
alarm - alarm was knackered but the car had no door locks so you couldnt lock it without getting the alarm fixed (alarm would make the battery go flat)
seats - were knackered and only held in with half the bolts should have been
rear seat had collapsed and the brackets didnt hold the back seat in place
gearbox knackered/crunch/noisy and no lsd (not that it could have had enough power to need an lsd), gearlinkage also knackered
headlining not fitted right and collapsed/rotted away at the back
water leaking in through every rubber seal, spare wheel well = swimming pool
no spare wheel
floor rotton around front chassis legs and rear floor
boot lock not working
no parcel shelf or boot carpet
no radio not even any speakers or speaker covers(!)
bits missing off the dash
wheels only had 3 bolts instead of 4 in each wheel
steering was off centre

So the guys at Specialist Cars of York who told me it was not bad for an old escort but maybe needed the wheels re-furbed were the biggest liers in the motor trade I have ever had the misfortune to deal with this is them here

wow- saddened and very surprised to hear this. Dont forget I sold it though in 2006. That was 6 years ago so i dont really want to be blamed for any of this as if you see any of my pics it clearly came with speakers and everything

would not run - needed fuel pump and metering unit and new battery -was ok when i sold it

got it running and it actually needed a new bottom end as was knocking
turbo did not boost at all - presumed fucked - again all was okay when sold it. It had only done 1900 miles on it

electrics did not work - no indicators, guages, ignition light - all fucked
elec windows didnt work - never had an isue but the dashboard i did was taken out and replaced by the person i sold it to

had been clocked according to vosa mot check - shocked

alarm - alarm was knackered but the car had no door locks so you couldnt lock it without getting the alarm fixed (alarm would make the battery go flat) - again odd as it worked when sold it to the guy who posted here earlier that then alledges he spent £250 sorting out

seats - were knackered and only held in with half the bolts should have been - it had been sold with leather in but again i believe my buyer replaced it for standard after?

rear seat had collapsed and the brackets didnt hold the back seat in place - odd again as sold it with that all in place.- There was some very well known people on here who helped me put it in

gearbox knackered/crunch/noisy and no lsd (not that it could have had enough power to need an lsd), gearlinkage also knackered- again fine when sold

headlining not fitted right and collapsed/rotted away at the back -again fine when sold-the headlining was a new one obtained from just affords

water leaking in through every rubber seal, spare wheel well = swimming pool -dunno what to say at this point i didnt ave any issues with this at all

no spare wheel- was one when sold (i think)

floor rotton around front chassis legs and rear floor - surprised at that

boot lock not working - again fully working when i sold it

no parcel shelf or boot carpet - was supplied when sold see my pics

no radio not even any speakers or speaker covers(!)-covers and speakers were with car when i sold it but no radio

bits missing off the dash- dash was replaced after i sold it

wheels only had 3 bolts instead of 4 in each wheel - again not had an issue as the buyer was getting rid of the alloys i had on which had locking nuts on

steering was off centre - never had that issue

Seems all bodged up after that in honesty, but i have to say i can hold my head up high and say that none of those issues are accountable to me. I can say that on my kids lives

I had been to several RSOC shows in 2006 including Isle of Wight pictured here

and about 4 or 5 others including Ford Fair and National Day and didnt have any issues with the car tbh. I sold her looking like this>

Sludge none of those comments were aimed at you - there is no link between me buying it and you owning it - that car went through a few peoples hands before it ended up with me in 2010.

Hi rallycross,

I was more or less in the same boat as you when my brother bought the car off Sludge in 2006 so I know how you were feeling, he did repaint the bonnet but was done poorly with little paint runs, the new alarm which he did supply was faulty as the garage counldn't get it to work properly and the electrics used to play up here and there I did agree it did need a bit of work when my brother bought it off Sludge but we found too many hidden surprise's which mean't more money to be spent on the car, so my brother sold the car off with no mot and made a lost.

I read your list of problems and some are the same as what I had when it was bought off Sludge, there were some problems I knew about, some I didn't and problems that just started to come up I think he just sold the car just in time as it was on it's last legs.

metering unit playing up a bit
gearlinkage didn't feel right
electrics did not work playing up like slow windows
alarm, battery going flat for no reason
slow punture on one tyre
seats - were knackered and only held in with half the bolts should have been
rear seat had collapsed and the brackets didnt hold the back seat in place
boot lock not working
headlining at the back not fitted right and collapsed
needed new front speaker covers
gearbox got worse knackered/crunch/noisy

And there was an invoice for a recon diesel gearbox fitted which he knew about and said it was better as it had longer gear ratios

dlo how much did you pay for it ? And do you have any pictures of what it looks like now ?

I paid £2350 for it expecting to get a nice straight example that would sell for £2995 with a new mot. But when it arrived I realised I'd been ripped off (unusual between dealers on autotrade-mail). I spent about £300 trying to get it going then gave up and put it on ebay for spares or repair at £900. The guy who bought it was able to do a lot of the work himself he did a thread about it on here, replaced the horrible headlights with standard ford ones and got it running properly so its out there somewhere - just managing to avoid the scrap heap that bit longer!
