Serious overheating going on...
After rebuilding the engine of my ERST it just won't stop overheating. And to be honest, i just don't know what to do about it or even where to look anymore.
The head and bottom end have been cleaned out, so all coolant channels are open, all of the hosing is cleared of remaining muck and connected up the right way. Radiator is clear and flushed to check flow, no problems there. Waterpump and thermostat are brandnew and in working order. Tried every way of getting the air out of the system, so presumably no air in there anymore. Also the fan kicks in when it should.
But still it won't stay cool.
There is no GRS or equal IC in the picture so the rad has full (for as far as possible) contact with the air. When running idle it will overheat eventually, but it takes far longer than when driving it. And with driving i don't mean racing but just easy cruisin since it has to be run in after the rebuild.
Does anyone have any idea's on how to go about this, because the bloody car it is getting on my last nerves by now after some earlyer problems

It Wasnt Me!
take the top thin hose off the top of the thermoustat housing and drain the air out this way, wait till water comes out, turn car off, put hose back on...blah.
Radiator - does it look ok? could be doin with a new one!? as its prob a good few years old, get it recored maybe, mine for my S1 cost £35 but i know can go upto bout £50 for a recore.
thermoustat - is it DEFFINATELY opening? and is it in the right way round? flatter side facing u if u take the housing off im sure it shuld be?
Fan switch, when does it cut in and switch the fans on? where on the guage?
Header tank cap, if this is losin pressure the system obviously wont pressureise resulting in it overheating - get a new one, worth it as their penny's
Anti-freeze, how much do you have in the system? too much culd make it over heat, as it has a higher boiling point.
head gasket is also a possability, could it be fooked maybe? new water pump also?
hope this helps eliminate summit or fix the prob!? also if u think the cars gonna overheat, DONT let it, switch off, leave ignition ON

i know the anwser i know the anwser !!!
your camshaft needs timing ! im not sure if the heating problem occured when its early or late, but you need to check the timing !
(or your head gasket has a leakage)

Well... Went off to fords 2 days ago for a new headertank+cap and a new temp. sensor. Finally got around to fitting them today. After some testing it would seem that my overheating problem is now solved.
My old headertank was somewhat cracked around the fillerneck and started hissing almost right after starting. It will need some more testdrives around the block before i declare it fixed tho
Only thing now is getting it set up properly, cause now it holds back like crazy and when started after being warm it wil run only on 3 cilinders for a few secs.
What the h*ll was i thinking when i decided to pull it apart
