revs go up and down on idle?

revs go up and down on idle?
it doesn't allway do it but i does happen often. as above the revs go up and down going up about 800 rpm. i have the idle set quit high so it doesn't cut out. it's hard to say what it's like in writing but the gap in between it is perfect not all over the place. it's like somone is turning somthing on off on off on off if you get what i mean. sorry if you can't understand what i mean but i couldn't think of any other way of explaning it. the car is a s2 erst mfi
