Default My 31K Series 1 Turbo

Just thought its about time to show you guys my recent investment.....

The car is standard and has just covered just 31K documented miles from new.
Its is the most honest & original Series 1 I have ever owned.
Its was the car that sat around in JCT 28 showroom for many years.
I purchased it last year after reluctantly selling my mintier than mint 60K S1.

I have only covered 100 miles since owning the car but enough to notice the car had its minor faults - mainly slipping clutch (replaced and flywheel skim) and also setting up problems with the turbo. It had a really annoying rattle that sounded like a big nut in the exhaust. (see my other thread) Turned out it was the wastegate seized open dumping gasses straight out of the exhaust - with the gate rattling about inside! hence the running problems and poor performance. The turbo was taken off and sent off to Turbo Technics. I have just drove the car back from my local garage and to say that I am chuffed is an understatement. Driving it home yesterday put a huge smile on my face from ear to ear - the first time with this car now it runs right. Its tight and runs as good as new. The standard boost still needs setting up which is going to be done next Saturday. All fault diagnosis and good work thanks to filthyrichie off this site!

The bodywork has always been mint which is why I fell in love with this car in the first place. I have now spent 100's of hours cleaning it with great satisfaction as the car has had no panel paintwork at all! The only paint is the recently painted back arches where they chip - which in my eyes let the car down.

Next up is a refurb for the spare set of wheels as in the pics they are all stripped down ready for paint and the fitment of the original MXV Tyres (for show use only of course.)

Underneath is original apart from a few recently powercoated items on the back suspension as somebody decided to pait the rear suspension components red! (again, see my other thread)

I also have decided to protect my investment with a Carcoon.
Well the time is coming fast to wrap up your RS and go back to bed for the winter!
Its a quality item and costs £329+ VAT but I got -10% just for being in the RS Owners club!

I will put some more pics up soon of the inside and engine bay etc but for now, Enjoy....

That is a little spanker you must be a happy bunny

The only thing i want to say, and its not trying to mock you or the car in anyway, but it clearly demonstrates how early in life the rust sets in on these cars and how poor the build quality of a Ford really is

Are you planning to mint the underside or are you going to keep it all original?

Difficult one on resto though...do you keep it orignal and untouched for the mileage and originality..or sort it out to keep it in top condition for another 21 years.

Well this is my thoughts exactly.

Obviously we can all see it is a completely straight and true car.......but its not really been anywhere and the rust has already hit those rear floor pan seams.......me personally i would probably just have the underside of the floor pan minted and re-sprayed, and then it doesn't detract from the originality of the cars exterior. Fuel tank IMO isn't an issue as it simply unbolts and can be replaced

Its a 31k minter, and i would want to keep it as A1 as i can if it was mine

And i really hope this isn't taken as criticism

its not mate dont worry. There was a poll on RSOC BB a while back with the previous owner whether or not it should be done.. The outcome was to leave it as theres only a few left now untouched in this original condition. I have thought long and carefully about this and have decided to leave original. Others may disagree - but if I wanted to go down this route I would have kept my 60K miler that had black jack underneath and done that instead

Well, if the car isn't being used daily its not really going to spread i guess so its probably safe to leave it as is, obviously a daily runner that lives outside would rot away in no time at all though

Just noticed aswell, what fucking muppet has jacked it up/put an axle stand on that front rail on the floor pan They need a slap

As i say though very nice car

Very nice! just keep her the way she is "Original"

Sure PCN was on ebay some time ago.

I moved the weekend (only a mile up the road) but had to wait until the sun come out to transport my pride and joy 6k S1 to her new home!

dont think i could put paint on it, maybe just polish the underside, it'll take off the staining and make the rust look much less

better as is that all painted and coated underneith tho, minters are everywhere but proper originals must be down to under a few anywhere

Don't if your aware but you can get a battery conditioner which keeps it charge for your carcoon.

Just out of interest what kind of money did you give for this beauty?

Obviously only if there is something draining it like a Alarm/immobiliser, otherwise it shouldnt ever really go flat.

Or of course you could just disconnect the earth from the battery

Yes mate batterys do go flat just stood even with nothing connected.

Thats why I also have the battery conditioner - its a good device for when the car is stood for long periods.

Fair enough if you've got one!

A good battery shouldn't go flat with no drain on it though!! would take months and months and months - otherwise new batteries off the shelf would be flat also as an example

Hi Dave. Good to hear from you again Nice to see you are still looking after the old girl. Mine's gone now up the North East somewhere. Not missing it too much at the mo with winter coming cos she would be sat in the garage anyway May enter the RS scene again when the kids are grown up a bit and i don't need the "sensible" Mondy anymore
