i am getting lots of blue/white smoke on start up(only when stone cold like when been left over night) now am i right in saying this could be the valve stem seels? (cvh turbo)
lasts for about 3/4 min till warm then doesent do it again till cold.
doesent smoke at all under power once warm.
next prob the dip stick keeps popping out under hard driving could this be related to the valve stem seels in any way. only done it since it strated smoking first thing?
it has an alloy breather on the rocker already..
head gasket is ok.

for the cost of a tenner and a couple of hours of your time it'd be worth doing them as it sounds like they could be on there way out. if you leave them then they'll only get worse and will do it on start up hot or cold but do no permenent damage. they don't really cause a problem with you crank case pressure though but something that does connect the 2 is rings but only a slim chance it's them unless you've got space ship miles

ford still sell them so they shouldnt be hard to get hold of and theres a special tool you can buy so you dont have to take the head off to change them.

As above i would replace the stem seals first but as mentioned the dipstick popping out is usually a sign of excessive crankcase pressure caused by worn rings.
You can replace them without removing the head and the tool is available from most motor accessory stores. Make sure you have the piston for the cylinder you are working on at TDC so if a valve does slip the piston will stop it.
A couple of pics in my rebuild thread may be useful to you so you know what to expect once the rocker cover is off....
