imo its pointless buying the cts stage two when one of the weakest bits is the gearset has to be a stage two plus, i know of a number of reasonable powered cars which have broke the gear teeth, go straight for the stage two plus saves you having to upgrade at a later date..
christian on a previous post you where stated that the mtx75 gear set is no bigger then the bc box, i dont think the size difference is plain to see but there is definatly a difference, plus how many high mileage mondeos or mk5/mk6 escorts do you hear with gearbox trouble the fact is you dont. In standard form the mtx75 is a very strong box just think how strong it would be if it was modified to the same spec as the stage two plus.
The gearboxes are relatively cheap but to fit them to the mk4 escort properly is not going to work out cheap, i still wish i went down this route but now i've gone beyond that point with the way my fiesta is structured and i have just spent £700 on a set of drive shafts so i would have to change a lot of things.
metal fatigue will get the better of the bc box cts dont ever say the gearbox will handle x amount of power and never will, sunny stage two plus withstood many a top speed run and sprints but when he sold it to pf user sid he broke it with 318bhp.
i went through seven gearboxes before i discovered cts i broke a stage two stripped fifth gear teeth, since going to a stage two plus i have never suffered from a broke box but the box has been off yearly for general maintance and loads of parts have been found to be worn. cts had my box in a month ago for a final drive change but yet again there were quite a few worn parts so these were replaced.
i dont think these problems would happen with the mtx75 the cars i know running this box never had any problems, but like i said before the power handling capability of the mtx75 will be put to the test very soon.
thanks
sean

cts stage2+ bc is a straight swap so lets see how it goes with this box

yes and another £750 unless you use your current gear set bernie will only use a new gearset to shot peen and polish.. mk YOU WILL DESTORY the gear set then you'll kick yourself for not going stage two plus, well you have already paid out so i suppose you have no choice.

stupid spending money on the bc/ib. It WILL break. MTX is needed, and it can be done for a LOT less than the CTS stuff costs. I have only recently broken my totally std box after 8 years of abuse. I'm replacing it with another cheap std s/hand box. It'll last just as long as any uprated BC, then it has to be MTX.

has anyone here done the mtx75 conversion as planning on doing it but i believe the input shaft is bigger so does it go straight on engine as this will save me time scratching head wondering why they wont go together

rick if your car dont break a standard box fast its not very powerfull, ive broken all of bernies boxes all gearsets exp the stage 2 plus, thats been fine,if my box was standard i recon i could break it the same day or very soon after . IMO. go straight for the stage 2 plus gearset, thats what ive found.

many people say the same as above that the stage 2 is a waste of time if your running big power so go straight for the stage 2 plus so i did

you'll need different clutch due to there being more splines, driveshafts, engine mounts, gear linkage, and a modified chassis leg, the bell housing bolts line up but thats about it..

gus just make sure after a few events have your gearbox looked at you'll be surprised at the amount of worn parts even if the car drives ok, get to the worn parts before they fail.

mk the fastest i've been in ther fiesta before the daddy thrash was 130 and i did'nt feel safe then, but at the daddy thrash once i got grip i got up to max speed so quick its was really uneventful and as you could see by my standing mile everyone was at max speed when they were timed i started to slow down which is why i only recorded 90mph.. it just was'nt as bad as i first thought and yeah your right i was'nt really trying so next time i will be trying my hardest and i wont back off until the last minute done 154 but my final drive was holding me back with my new spec my rev range should be a lot better. hopefully with all my new bits i can achieve some good times... there been a steady improvement from you will be interesting to see what your car does in all events and i hope gus car is done by then..
thanks

Tim, i strip the gears but haven't done a bearing. I think it's just luck really. I very rarely launch it - new box will prob last a fraction. I just dont see point in spending 1k+ on a BC that may be say 10% stronger. MTX is a ball ache, but only reliable solution.

rick your joking right? 10% stronger then a standard box no chance m8 more like 100% stronger, mtx75 is definatly the way forward i went through seven boxes one lasting me an hour (layshaft bearing broke) standard bc box just not man enough..
my advise to anyone looking for a strong box for there fwd ford go through the expense and fit an mtx75. also many of the cars running mtx75 have not had the chassis leg strengthen the ones i've seen the chassis leg been cut in a way i would hate to see the state of the car after a low speed crash.
thanks
