Relays mate

And the wiring to the fuses/relays may be a bit weak.

Yeah, just had the same problem fella.... i was driving along at night last Sunday, and then it suddenly all went dark!!!

I still had side lights, but the headlights didn't work at all!

It was the relay that had blown, inside the fuse box!

The problem I had on mine wasn't that the relay had blown, but the contacts were loose. I squeezed them together using pin nosed pliers and also slightly twisted the relay contacts, been fine ever since!

Checked my relays last night and the ones that seem to relate to the lights are yellow not white (am I looking at the wrong relay ??)

p.s. in the fusebox where is the relay I am looking for located ? there are two white ones at the bulkhead end of the fuse box - is it those I should be looking at ??

Also I heard the problem could be the switch - is that possible ??[/quote]

Yep, could also be the switch!!??

When mine blew, i was initially told it was either the relay or the switch!

Seems a VERY common problem now, due to the age of the cars!

I also have this problem (although touch wood, seems not to have played up recently)

Changing the white relay in the top corner used to sort it for a few months at a time, but the terminals in the fuse box get abit weak aswell, so it might be worth checking that they are making good contact with the relay terminal.

Cheers peeps - all help appreciated - I have just noticed that the top corner white relay has had the wire from the fuse box soldered to it so I think I have found the problem - obviously had a weak connection in the past and has been soldered to get round the prob as a temp fix. I will see what I can do with it now and hopefully that will solve the prob

Probelm solved

It was the white relay in the top corner - in the end just a bad connection in the fuse box

thanks for the advice - saved me a lot of trouble

Glad to hear it mate. I hate it when people bodge things like that just to get them working ASAP why not do it right first time, it'll last a lot longer! My bro is like that "sling a wire across here to there...." and a few of my mates, then I end up coming round and replacing burnt out wires etc and doing it properly

That's the only electrical gremlin my S2 has had. Was just a crappy contact on the fuseboard with the relay
