Default Strut Brace Fitment.

Right, bought a front strut brace for my s2 from a fella on here, arrived this morning and i went out and sat it on to see how it looked.

Looks like it will fit on the struts fine, however, it fouls with the wide plastic inlet(?) of sorts at the back?

Whats the way around this, or have i bought an S1 item or summit?

Can get a few pics tonight if need be.

Cheers.

so is it just a case of squeezing it in?

What is that bit anyway?

yes mate just squeeze it in...once its in place it will never move

the box holds the heat motor for inside the car...u can take it out...but water will get into the motor...or you can go the full hog and not have heaters in the car lol u wont have any issues then lol

or if you are not happy with the fit...u might be able to cut a slot away so everything fits nice and snug...

IIRC, on my old turbo, when the brace was in place...it moved the plastic case ever so slightly which caused it not to sit on the bonnet properly...but it was never anything to worry about

You need to cut a slot into the box. If you just squash it in the seal will not fit around the bonnet correctly and apart from not closing properly it will leak water into the heater box itself.

I've recently posted two photos before and after showing of how it needs to be cut to fit properly. I'll see if I can find them as I'm not on my home comp.

As for fitting it: i used the self tappers provided (but cut a thread into the strut first using a tap & die set) altho most people say you should remove the suspension and properly bolt them in as this gives a more positive fitment. Depends how hard you push your car should determine if you want to bolt it in or if it's a bit more for looks than 100% function.

I've bought a "Wiechers" XR3i one off German ebay for 39€ (27 pounds).

Fits like a glove!

Should fit RHD aswell by the looks of it.

Yes Tim (hence why I haven't fitted mine to the S1 so far: don't think I want to drill them ). There's the old style ones (not sure who does them) where you remove the strut top and bolt it onto there instead, but personally I don't like the aesthetics look of them compared to these ones.

Should have been some supplied with it. Does the bloke you bought it off not have them ?

Somewhere like B&Q should have them but I know safechav has posted a link before to somewhere that did screws and shit. He posted it after I put up pics of my front grill.

I did??

Don't remember that, it may of been the place that appears in the advertising space at the bottom of this window?

And whats going on with your battery tray looks like you've accidentally on purpose spilt a tub of grease on it

slightly off topic but does a normal s2 strut brace still fit if you are using a fiesta inlet manifold..???

See the follow on post: you never, but I thought you had.

The battery tray is covered in a wax-oil type substance we use at work to protect bare metal on aircraft from rusting. That pic was just after I'd applied it. I cleaned the tray up then covered it in this and allowed to harden off slightly before I refitted the battery.

No point in using self tappers to hold the strut brace on (unless its just for looks/show use). It needs to be bolted solid to the strut tops with nut's & bolts to do the job its intended for.

No point in bolting it either - it needs to be welded to do the job its intended for

IIRC Twins makes modified heater boxes with a slit in them for strut braces. There was a post up recinelty on the topic.
