You need to have it put on a fault code reader.

you can plug a reader into it if you have the correct software, the car can still run even tho the ecu is fucked, depends which part is fucked, but it will do all sorts of damage

I think the only thing that is likely to fail is the integrated MAP sensor. Had that on one of my RSTs once.

RST's will run with no fuel ECU....admittedly like a pile of shit but they will do it, they operate like K-Jetronic when something on the fuel management fails.

PeterRST thats the ignition ECU not the fuel one

K-jetronic is a bit more complex than KE with no ecu.

Mulla,
Which ecu are you refering to? Nobody said fuel ecu but Safechav.

its the one behind the heater blower, when i start her up she starts for one second then stops, keeps doing that when it starts up black smoke comes out if i turn her off and try again it wont start keeps doing that, before this happend it sounded like it was fireing on three cylinders,it gradually got worse i changed the plugs as they were black, changed leads but still same problem just does not fire up,so i think its the ecu or metering unit any help please.

Ahhhh sorry im sure i read fuel ECU

And jesse you are right i know K is a bit more complicated then KE without an ECU, hence why KE wont start well from cold when the management fails
