Don't where you are but I just bought a standard kit (inc lifters) from Lloyds in Wembley for £75 and they had a least 1 other in stock.
I'm a bit surprised at the above because by no stretch of the imagination
could those compression figures be described as OK.

Now its mentioned those compressions are a bit low, i can't remember what had been/said and done at the time.

Was that compression test carried out cold because something tells me it was?

I'll have a look at the diagrams and try and help you out ASAP

Compression tests should always be done from warm, but when i looked back at them they are a bit low, i honestly can't remember why at the time i said they seemed ok, should be around 10 bar at least (150psi)

So hows it going anyway?

Just looked this up on Microcat for you. It lists an Ignition relay and a Fuel relay for the S1. Thing is the descriptions are not entirely reliable and I'm not sure which one you need. They have different part numbers

Ignition V85AB 14N089 AA FINIS - 1627665
Fuel V85AB 9P704 BA FINIS - 1630562

All I can suggest is that you look in the fuse box, find out which one you don't have and order that one.

But you should have both of the above relays on a S1. If you look at all of your car's relays and compare them to the part numbers above you should find that one is missing.

Whichever one is missing is presumably the one you need to order.

It would be much easier if an S1 owner with the correct relays would have a look at their car and read off the part number they have on the relay with a green socket...

Not much more I can suggest really

Microcat's descriptions are always a bit hit and miss though. Having looked down the complete list of Mk3 Escort relays they seem the only two likely candidates however.

sure i read somewhere that you couldnt use an s2 ecu on an s1 but was ok the other way round, you got a part number for the relay mate as i've got a s1 engine loom lying in my garage doin nowt, you say its the one with the green plug?will have a look for it later

Its all interchangable although to use a S1 fuel ECU on a S2 you have to do simple wiring mod.

no matey its the other way round ive got a s1 wireing loom with the s2 hash diamonds ecu and the black ecu

forgot to ask will this cause any conflicts as the other way round requires a mod, surely this will? or dont it work that way

no the fuel ecu is ok, however your S2 ignition ECU won't work at its best on a S1 loom, but IT WILL not stop oit starting, it will only have issues with ignition retard when driving

whats the black n yellow wire that goes to the s1 fuel relay do as i dont have a relay its just bridged at the mo

any ideas however stupid it may seem give it a go because it is something ive overlooked

Black/Yellow is a cranking feed to the ignition ECU IIRC.

Have you checked the fuse inside that relay you have just acquired?

Errrr, i'm not actually sure what the effects will be without that wire connected

The cover should be unclippable on the relay, it has a 20mm glass fuse inside, if its blown you will have cold starting problems.

The pressure shouldnt go with one press, but the flap wont return instantly it should rise steadily and smoothly

Hi Allblepete, I bought my R1 five years ago and dry stored in the garage.
The RS1 has never started because of a missing injection module relay (V85 AB1 4N089AA).
Do you have any this relay (V85 AB1 4N089AA)?
Can you sell me one?
Best Regards
Tony
