All major insurance companies DO NOT have a problem with turbo timers. This has been quoted a few times and I don't know where people get their wrong info from. I've spoken to many companies regarding this issue and not 1 have said they are illegal to use or would they turn down insurance based on this. This includes companies like HIC, Adrian Flux, etc.

To answer your questions, yes and yes. BUT: get a good auto-electrician to fit it and you shouldn't have any problems.

You could get all the fuctions working, but you would have to have a reliable speed signal. The best way would be to fit a decent speed sensor on a rear wheel so that wheelspin doesn't give you a false reading.

A dedicated wheel speed sensor. It is going a bit extreme though just for a turbo timer, but why not. Stack do one for example, but you would have to check if it would be compatible with the HKS.

Personally I find that by the time I've got everything I need and get out of the car the timer has almost counted to 0 anyway so I then set the alarm.
I never boost it all the way home as I live in town and don't come on boost much doing 30 mph so the timer has auto-corrected to a lower count time anyway by the time I've pulled into the drive, opened the garage, driven in, removed phone - jacket - stereo, fitted steering lock, blah, blah, shut garage door.

I'm pretty sure some clifford alarms have turbo timer functions built in so it will set the alarm as well whilst the timer counts down, but you'd have to do some research into which ones. Unless your boosting your car to your front door there won't be much time betwen you sorting yourself out and the ignition being killed.

http://www.clifford.com/

These 11 units have built in turbo timers:

If you already have an alarm it might be worth speaking to the manufacturer to see if they can help with sorting something out: they may already have a product which will allow correct operation.
