No, in a nutshell. Unless you are running in excess of 30psi or using a T4 turbo (or some fancy GT series jobbie).

I don't run one on my own 260bhp car running 24psi and have no intention of fitting one

Pretty much all oe cars(turbo) have them as std WHY.
It prevents turbo stall, allowing faster spool up, and sounds awsome IMO, not to everyones taste though.

You'll find VW/Audi cars have them listed as a noise surpression devices. It has fuck all to do with preventing stall and everything to do with people buying road cars not really wanting their car sounding liek a flock of pigeons everytime the throttle is closed.

In all my years playing with turbo cars I have never once seen a failure as a result of not having a dump valve fitted. Escort RST and Fiesta RST don't have them as standard either.

Make no mistake, on an RST you are buying nothing more than a noise

have to agree best move i made taking my dump valve off, dont get me wrong im not a dump valve hater, actually quite liked having mine on,but my car ran better, idled better, came on boost harder and felt so much nicer to drive,no more jerkiness cruising at 30 when i removed mine,so it got binned

if you just want it for the noise fair enough i was 18 once myself for performance wise on an rst its just a gimmick

I get a small amount but nothing like you get on an EFi as teh metering head muffles it all. Best of both worlds imho, you don't sound like a buss or a flock of pigeons

oh i understand totally that you dont have to run ridiculouse boost,

is yours still mfi? what head work have you had done? and what turbo,

the project i share with my uncle, were running a t34, with a stage three head with enlarged valves ect, portmatch manifolds and all that, unfortuanatly still on mfi, and that made 232 @1.4 bar, so a little it higher

have to agree with oranoco there as it is obvious that all maunufacturers that fit these for is just for the sake of it.
I cant imagine that a turbo spinning at up to 200,000 rpm and suddenly havings it's exit cut off would be a problem, and would in now ay impede the turbine from spinning.
Of course it could be that esc uses smaller components and less boost so is not needed as std ?
I think ford fitted them just for something else to go wrong so they could pay out money for repairs as they are now a registered charity ?

You complete tool

It's widely known that you don't need them on these cars (not commenting on other marques although as stated VAG list it as a noise surpression device). In fact the only reason the small turbo Escort Cossie needs one is because the MAF can't distinguish which direction the air is travelling across it and gets upset.
