Default Springs and Shocks

I need to replace the front shocks on my S2. I won't be doing this until next month as I've just spent all my money for this month on a paddle clutch.

What do you guys recommend. I'm not sure I can stretch to £600 for pukka coilovers, looking more to springs and shocks.

Car is currently decked, and I mean decked. The fronts are virtually tucked under the arches (cannot get finger between arch and tyre) with 205/40/17's.

I want to keep the 17's as I'm planning big brakes, but want to raise the ride height a bit, say 15 mm, and soften the ride as it is currently teeth shattering. I'm not after standard ride height, just a bit higher than now and slightly more cushioning than basically solid!

I realise I will not be able to just launch it into corners as hard, but it's getting annoying crawling over speed bumps in 1st.

Any help at all?
