Default Partly melted turbo

I was stripping my turbo today as part of my new rebuild when I saw that the turbine wheel has suffered a bit of a overheat!

The story is - the vacum/boost hose to the waistgate from the turbo blew off while the car was on the dyno running at full chat, which caused the waistgate to shut so all the exhaust gas had to pass through the turbo, this then caused the piston to melt and also vaporise the outer fins of the turbo turbine wheel!
This happened the day before the daddy thrash. However the car has still covered over 1000 miles since.
I never noticed the reduction in performance because I have been using reduced boost to prevent the Felpro head gasket from failing.

No.
I replaced the piston at the dyno, but I didnt know the turbo was melted, as I said I turned the boost down due to having to run a Felpro.
It was a bit of a panic to get the piston in let alone do a full inspection of all componants.

Is that compressor housing big enough on the first turbo?!

What happened to the second one, looks a bit like a piston now

Do you mean the piston shaped turbo or the turbo shaped piston?
Well it seems to work!
