Escort RS Turbo's & tuning?
Alright guys/lassies im after some info on ERST's. Having been away from RS's for a few years im planning another. I've had 4 RS Fiestas in the past and know plenty about them but I fancy a Escort. Mainly as they are far easier to get
There may be a website that gives me all this info like ft.com does for fiestas - if so just point me to it to save some typing
My last Fiesta RST was tuned to 165bhp - I assume the Escort is heavier so would need a bit more power to get the same performance.
What is the first stage of tune on a ERST and what sort of power should it give - also how high can I reliably go to as im 170miles from the nearest "good RS" garage?
Also what is the handling like - the FRST was very firm but grippy - is the Escort the same?
Anything I should speically look for - the engine etc is similar to the Fiesta but what about rust etc?
Cheers for any replies/help.

well a stage 1 obviously varies from company to company but a good tune and set up will see you to ~150bhp totally standard.
then from there you could get 180bhp using a chip and -31 altho im dubious as to whether the intercooler can handle the boost needed for that or not (altho people i know are doing it so guess it is!!)
handling really depends on your setup...standard by now will be a bit sloppy and not really up to that much. uprated and then its gonna vary car to car.
mines on konis and -50mm ( - not wanted!!!!!) and in the dry its unreal but get it on the wet stuff and its straight on or straight on, corners are a no no
a strut brace really helps with that though so im told.
they are rusty little buggers for sure, check sunroof drains, just behind sunroof, battery tray, fuse box, sills, arches, under bodykit, boot floor.....etc etc, hell check everywhere
check theres no smoke obviously, make sure it boosts and holds it well etc. you know the usual.
good luck

Check these aswell;
-The panel under the fuse box you can reach it fron under the dash - mine is rotten there and leaks water.
-Remove the battery and poke the panel underneath, because it can rot under there and let water in too, even if the tray looks alright.
-The front panel behind the bumper especially around the bumper mounting holes.
Good luck.
