it works just like a rivit. You use a gun, but instead of punching in a rivit, you punch in a threaded insert. You then use a threaded screw to secure the kit. It's good as you can easily take the kit on and off for cleaning etc.

I believe those are also known as rivet nuts.

But indeed, they are far superior. And you can get them in stainless - no rusting either

As mentioned above they are an insert which you rivit to the bodywork and then use a regular metric course screw. ie 4mm, 5mm etc to Secure the kit. This means that you dont have to drill out the rivits if you ever need to remove them again. You could buy some button head A2 grade stainless steel screws then just touch them up in white to match the car. Just remember that you would have to drill out the existing popped rivited hole bigger to exept the new inserts. This could cause a problem around the wheel arches where you dont have much of an edge to drill bigger. Just thought i would mention this before you get too carried away. Might not be a problem but worth mentioning.

You should be able to get them in pretty much any size.

The closest thing will be button head stainless ones, but stainless only comes in stainless

If you really want them white you could just get regular rivets and dust them over with a can of white. I dont think painting bolts will look too fantastic.

Both have their pros and cons

The rivet nuts are simply a thread that can be locked into sheet steel, so yes yoiu use normal metric bolts/screws.

Far better than rivets, with the only minor flaw being the visual appearance

Just aswell i'm not you then

Rivets are shit things, you will never get the end out of the sill once you have drilled it out If you were to use button heads there wouldnt be that much visual difference

Lol, you got that idea from that plank Davvy

Button heads are quite subtle and low profile. Have a look on the site that advertises on here, they show button heads
