Whin'ing noise on start up!
Over the last few days in the cold mornings ive had a whin'ing noise on start up! So wot things can make horrible noises? i was thinking it might be the starter motor, or the alternator?
Today it did it when i flicked the ignition on without me starting the car, so whats live or moving when the ignition is turned on? As soon as im off the drive the noise has gone, but its really starting to bug me now! its a horrible whin'y scraping noise!

So its not doing just whilst the starter motors turning over? Just says cos i've changing my starter before and if it doesn't sit quit right on reinstallation it can make a horrible grinding noise on turn over... but it sounds like it is this as it does it before starting??

the fuel pumps brand new! and is every so quite when the engines running!
It dosnt apear to make the noise when i turn it over, thou sometimes the starter motor seems to stop, then if i retry again it turns over first time! bit weird!
how much are new starter motors? wheres the best place to get them from?

if its a belt thats worn - see if the noise stops when you spray it with break cleaner !!!!
the starter could be holding in - try cleaning up the conections
fuel pump - may be,they are all ways noisey !!!

there you go then - i'd say that !!!
my alternator makes a noise in the summer,as it dry's up.
try sparying brake cleaner on the belts - if the noise stops - there's ya problems
for a temp measure - rub wax crayon on the v part of the belt.
