Default MK5 LOCK SET

Does anyone know if a escort mk5 lock set will fit a mk4? If not a straight swap does anyone know if they could be made to fit using the old mk4 lock set?

Got my new lock set the other day and iv started doing the little mods requied to get the front to fit properly.

As you can see from the pics iv started shaping the end of one of the arms. Iv mesured everything up and apart fom drilling the hole i should only need to make a small spacer up for the inside of the door to hold the lock firmly in place. I havnt yet checked to see if the rear boot and ignition lock is diffrent but im hoping they are the same. Ill do an update on how it goes for future use

why did you want to use mk5 instead of mk4?

Is it better/stronger?

genuinely interested.

cheers

The only reason i went for a mk5 lockset is that i got it real cheap. Im not even shure if you can still buy a new mk4 lock set as iv never seen any for sale.
The front door locks should be stronger though as im replacing the plastic arms for metal ones.

Dont think you can mate the rear one's are a sealed unit unlike the door one's where you can take them apart.

Well i can say for definate that you can cange the core of the mk5 rear boot lock into the mk4 lock. See pics below how i did it

The core removed from the old lock by removing two c clips from the rear

The new core beside the old lock. Had to pry the front cover off the mk5 lock to get at the core

Putting the first c clip back into place

Spring, lever and last c clip laid out ready to put back together

All done
