Default Some problems fitting my GRS radiator

Hi turbo nutters,

I'm building a mark 4 Escort with a 2.0 ZVH turbo engine and for the cooling I've chosen a GRS alu radiator.

I am at the point of connecting up all of the hoses but with the bottom hose I'm having a problem.....

First of all, a "detailed" drawing of the radiator, top view, this may help in understanding what my problems are..... Here it goes..........

Don't laugh!

First of all, the take off pipe to connect the bottom hose is very short, but with a little fiddling around that could work just fine.
More annoying is the fact that the diameter (X in the drawing) of the take off is slightly too small so you have to squeeze the hose more than you would normally do. This may result in leaking...... Also it seems that the angle "Y" is too big, my hose is just about 0,5mm. away from the alternator..... Because of the angle you can't get the hose to fit on straight, so that's also a point that could and probably will result in leaking....

It seems to me that the bottom take of pipe is not designed very well but if I look at the rest of the GRS design (rad and intercooler) that would be very strange. The rest is perfect!

Does anyone who uses a GRS radiator know of this problem and if so, could anyone tell me how I can get the hose connected in a way that i'm 100% confident about it?? I'm needing a bit of help right now.......

So anyone who has any comment, please inform me................

Thank you,
Mark

Regarding the hose being close to the alternator, you could fit a shorter alternator belt.

That could be a start. Thanks, didn't think of that option..... Do you happen to know which Ford number I need to get hold of a slightly shorter belt? Or do I need to ask the people at Ford to look for me? (that could be a pain in the ass because the only thing they are interested in is selling new cars)

Thank you for your reply, and to others, all info is welcome.......

I have used a Gates belt. I just took my original belt into a Gates dealer and asked for one that was a little shorter. Mine is now practically back as far as it can go.

Okay, I will try that out. Hopefully I'll get the hose on a bit smoother and don't have to worry about losing the coolant.

Thank you!
