top piece of mate, next to my engine it's the best thing i've put on my car
you only have to cut the bumper if you want to keep the spotlights on,best to put the fan's on the rad dude.

i test fitted the bumper a few mins ago and the only bit catching was the fan screws on the foam behind the number plate but so im gonna sand it out as much as possible.

i would put them on the rad but since im not moving the rad back at all there is no room whatsoever. the rad is precisely 1mm-ish behind the intercooler.

Move the IC forward. . . which will put it right up against the bumper probably, giving enough room inbetween the IC and rad, problem solved

why does everyone say put them between rad and cooler? do they restrict air gettin to the cooler that much then by being there?

heres a pic of mine, fitted few weeks ago

you see, this may sound bloody stupid and feel free to tell me if it does, but i thought if anything, by havin the fans at front, it might help more air get to the cooler, coz if i had the intercooler right up against the bumper, the bumper is blocking alot of it, about 50% coz the new grs evo 5 is smaller. but with the fans there, the cooler is pushed back, and some air my flow up int bits of cooler that are blocked by bumper. hope u kinda see my theory lol

EssexMikeSi, What do we have fans for? to cool the rad/coolant not the IC

So by having fanS on your IC (I say fanS because I'd reckon you only need 1 if it was inbetween the rad and cooler) your needint to blow cool air through a tight grid to the rad, which wont be very efficient hence probably needing 2 to do the job!

So if you move the cooler forward (which is easily possible if the fans arent their with a couple of washers/gromets) this will allow space inbetween the IC & Rad for A fan. .

so now you'll only need 1 fan and can sell the other, so freeing up some cash. . and making it all more efficient, and the added bonus is. . no fans to block airlfow to the rad!
with your 2 fans, look how theirs a quarter nearly of each fan blowing air onto a solid surface. . so really half of a fan is pointless so your running 1.5 fans if you look at it that way?

you MAY need to trim the bumper ever so slightly but i doubt it as when i fitted one to my pals car (granted i did fit the fan on the IC) their was plenty of room to fit it inbetween!

P.s. with 50% of the cooler bein blocked, well it's really still blocked with the fans and bumper where they are jusnow, only benefit the fans may have imo is when your sittin parked up, temps rise (as it's right next to the rad) the fans come on, cool the IC down for when you set off. . but then 3-4 mins of driving/airflow will cool it down anyway.. and they only come on with the fan switch, unless you overide it!

all IMO Ofcourse

if your using the car everyday and in traffic you are going to need 2 fans.
when i fitted mine i thought 1 fan would be enough, it was'nt!!!

addiction, Was your fan mounted on the IC or inbetween?

I think for every day normal driving it'll be fine with one, as my pals was fitted with one fan on the IC and in heavy traffic on the m/way on a hot summers day the temp was perfect, probably because the car hadnt been given a roasting, so not allot of heat to soak into the rad once we'd stopped.

everyones cars will be different tho, old rads on some/leaking header tank caps etc etc

i have tried both ways with 1 fan and it is definately better with 2 mounted on the rad! and before you say anything else i have an alloy rad,82 deg stat, cossie fan sender and all the other trimmings to help!

dave y- i had to trim the lip of the actual plastic of the bumper a few mm, so the fans could spin freely and then i had to cut all the foam and metal off the back of the bumper behnind where number plate is to give the actual fan hubs clearance to spin.

im goin to see how my car runs with the fans on the intercooler. then if its seems high compared to wen i had the single fan on the rad wen i had a saph 2wd intercooler (higher acts) i wil try the fans between the rad and cooler

i to have fitted a cossie fan switch and 82 deg stat to help with things

wen i ordered my intercooler, graham at grs asked me what way i was gona have the fans etc so im guessin the intercooler brackets have been welded on so it can sit in its certain position. failing that, i'll have to cuts them off an weld new ones on.

Default grs

i would put the fans in between the i.c and rad as you want as much cold air getting onto that cooler i have a grs fitted to mine also done it my self ended up having to get mounting strips rewelde as well if you are running a standard rad then you will ony be able to mount the one fan as the metal strip that runs down the middle of the rad impedes the fans i.e it 'cocks ' the fans and the screws at the cnter of the fans fowls on the i.c...dont do wot i did push the rad so far back it hits the accuator as i burst a rad with the motion of the engine under load but if you do have an alloy rad that shouldn't be a prob as they have no metal stip down the middle...

ive got one tried putting the fan on the rad and then the intercooler on got it all nicely spaced cause at first the fan touched the intercooler bolted bumper in place went to close bonnet and it wont close cause the intercooler hit the release arm so i took it off and its now sat in garage cause im too lazy to re fit it lol i guess if i mounted it lower if i can it will be ok?

mine is now on, i had to cut quite a large amount of foam from behind the bumper but the didnt have to cut ANY of the bumper at all and the fans spin freely, admittedly there is about a 1-2mm gap but they spin freely

edited to add pictures

Think when i get mine i'll put the fan's on the rad as i dont want to put the fuckers on the intercooler than have to take it all back off because it's getting to hot because theres not enough cold air geting to the rad

hmmm, how deep is that big fan? the only thing stopping me from putting the spotlights back on is the fans are in the way whereas that fan leaves loads of space!

the fan is only like an inch thick all around except the middle(motor) its unless bigger... but with carefull cuttin u can cut out the inner of the thickest section of bumper and it fits in with a little cut out of bottom...

if u look closely at me bumper in my sig... theres few bits missin from the 90 spec and ive cut sum away...
