Got to be a wheel bearing! Wouldnt worry about it as there only about a tenner to buy and easy to fix!!

Dont drive it to hard with the bearing gone as it could knacker the stub aswell.

well found out what the problem was

it was the left rear engine mount ( near the header tank)

the nyloc nut had come off the bolt and allowed the engine mounting to come loose from the body. the noise coming from the rear wheel arch was the exhaust clatering the underside of the car.

fixed it though , with a trolly jack under the sump a pad made from ploy bags and rice and a sock. slowly jacked up the sump with the pad between the jack and sump and bingo got the bolt though the hol;e and a new nyloc nut torqued to the max.

so go and check your guys, beacuse i never notice it maybe because every time i had a look it was dark.

wonder what else it has fooked up

I had the same sorter noise but was about 2seconds after turning my engine off just a loud pop! Couldnt tell where it was from sounded like xzorst like a back fire pop!!!!Also (droning on now) was driving down A12 the other day and decided to give it some beans (as ya do) and there was three massive bangs from the underside of my car (s2rs) like back fires then cus i paniked like ya do came off and slowly went back on and been fine ever since! except that when i now drive the car and its warm if i sit around 2100rpm it pops like a bugger in any gear go above or below and its returns to normal! any ideas on any of these??? sorry for loading ya people!

James:
1. Bang after switching off engine is normal - so don't worry bout this - do you let it run down (i.e. leave it running for a few mins) before switching off?

2. 3 bangs - sounds like overboost or rev limiter coming in to me. Is is chipped and what boost you running? If you cacked yourself - you should see what the cars behind do! (Bang, flash, and unburnt fuel on the their windscreen - nice!)

3. Popping - could be timing is out. Along with above - probably worth a session on the rollers.

BlackS2 will be doing the same myself shortly and possibly the other mounts as well just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the ideas, only thing is its only just come off the rollers then all this starts! Gutted. Also some times cuts out at 4500rpm...its not chipped and running 10psi with magnex stainless straight through and piper x induction got baily dump valve on it too.Ive been recomended to have it chipped and as my tapets have got rather loud ive also been told to fit a new set but am thinking of goin straight for kent camm kit...just money is holding me back...damn crimbo never get back what i spend!!!!!

Bit laggy for around 10psi I reckon (got one in mine), i think the piper 285t would prob be better for fast road use. I don't know anything about the Kent ones.
