its a big bolt with a nut to lock it off at a certain height! you can order the adjusting tool with the cam to hold the follower while you lock it off!

easy, very easy but time consuming lol

if you need more details just shout!

(just fitted and adjusted mine so its all fresh in my mind)

just go on www.newman-cams.com (edited as wrong address)
you put the cam in, drop in the follower, put the rocker on and tighted up only when the cam lobe is not pushing the follower up (follower at its lowest point on the cam) and the use a feeler gauge between the follower and rocker arm!

you have to keep taking it out to adjust it which is the bit which takes time but turn it only a bit at a time and you will get there in the end!

if you have the belt off its easy to turn but don't keep the rocker arms on any of the others till your ready to put the cam back to its original position otherwise you will push the valves into the pistons when turning the cam!

hold it at 2k for 20 mins, can be driven! easy once you doing it! all set to the tolerances at the lowest point on each lobe!

the idea of that is to allow the valves to shut fully!

get in there I thought it was going to be really hard but its easy as long as you note where the tdc was on the old cam and make sure the new one is in same positiion before you tighten it all up and follow haynes manual and you can't fuck it really!

I kept the starter motor in and just as I finished, turned the engine over my spanner on the cam bolt then by turning the key with the rocker cover off and all sparkplugs and sensors off and it should spin freely!

easy- if you can change a clutch you can do this no probs

Performance fords project RS TURBO was fitted with a newman kit and they drew up a diagram in the cam fitting edition of the set-up formation, looked really handy as they went to the trouble to do all the hard work for us.

Rule of 9!!

The easiest way of telling you how to set them without getting complex with cam and crank angles is the Rule of 9 (only applies to 4 cylinder engines).

Start at TDC and rotate the engine by hand (removing the spark plugs will make this easier).
If rocker 1 is rocking, set rocker 8 (adds up to 9).
If rocker 2 is rocking, set rocker 7 (adds up to 9).

Etc etc.

Work off the thought that the inlet are odd numbers and exhaust are even numbers. As you rotate the engine from TDC, cylinder 1 will be filling with air as the inlet valve opens. This means set cylinder 4 exhaust valve.

P.S that is not 100% cock on accurate as the inlet valve will probably have already opened and closed by TDC on number 1 cylinder. I was just busting for a shite while I was typing that !!

I am buying a Newman Cam for my FRST and understand by the above posts how to fit it.

Two questions though on setting up the followers....Do I use a feeler gauge and what do I set them to?

Any help will be appreciated.
