Default Help!!!! Please

Hey

I am building a zetec turbo, do I need to run different rods to handle 220-230bhp? Had split decisions, some say the internals other than pistons are good for more, but then some have said they will bend at that spec!!!!! Its a 1.8 lump out a escort if that help...

Many thanks

to be fair, ull never be happy with 230, when the potential for over 300 is easily available. id just plump for burton rods and machined c20 let pistons now. in the long run it will be more reliable. also id fit the under piston oil spray bars from the 2.0 or rs1800

If your not looking for stupid power why are you doing a zetec conversion?

You can easly get 200 + bhp out of the 1.6 cvh...

The cvh if well looked after will be fine and rev harder than the zetec.

im using the standard pistons and conrods in my 1.8 ZVH, and im going for about 200 BHP, i have had 30thou taken off the top of the pistons to reduce compression, And using the oil spray jets,

I am told this is fine and can run about 14 to 16 psi.

So i would of thought it would be ok in your zetec turbo. the only reason i haven`t uprated my pistons and con rods is due to cost, i dont have a grand to splash out on them, and want my car for show season this year, so maybe next winter i might have saved enough to change them so i never have to worry about them cracking etc.

this is becoming a regular occurance on pf come on lads keep it happy! as for your rods mate as long as you get your engine set up correctly the power you are looking for will be ok on those rods , but you should consider changing the pistons but like everything else with bloody cars its cash cash and more cash

Yes, come on, lets stick to answering the original question rather then telling them to do something else.

It was my understanding that the standard internals are pretty strong and are good for around 300bhp, apart from the pistons which you need to uprate.

I prefer the zetec route just to overcome that bloody cvh "tap tap tap tap" sound that they all seem to have, no matter how well looked after they are! lol gets on my tits that sound!

Cheers boys thats more like the help I need.... As you say the the cvh are very tappy, so compare a 230 bhp zetec to a 230 cvh no contest.. the zetec will be smoother, better, less noisey and less likey to go bang on a bad day...What happened to each to their own, people seem to think its wrong if it isnt done there way

As for this constant why not the 2.0ltr, theres more potential blah blah blah... Im not looking for 300-400bhp so whats the problem

The reason people started going ZVH and zetec was for loads of power as it's easier than it is to extract from 1600....

If people are prepared to spend thousands on engine conversions because cvh's are 'tappety' when they could just as easily achieve the power, you've got shitloads more cash than me. A well maintained engine be it cvh or zetec won't go bang so long as it's looked after.

Have to agree with JamesS2RS...

People want different things from thier engines, and the whole rev debate comes up each and every time. Zetec's have more torque than a cvh and therefore is probablly the nicer to drive, the cvh is probablly the better to race, it's all down to what the driver wants.

People do have a tendancy on this board not to just give you an answer to a question, but bring you round to thier way of thinking if they dont agree with the decision you have made.

The question was basically "are the internals ok for 220-230 bhp" not "have I made a bad decision buying 1.8 zetec?" or "do I need the cvh boys to tell me how wank the ZVH is AGAIN?!"

I thank you.

someone just asked the question is he going for big power and the guy lost it lol....

another person made a valid point that he can easily achieve the power he's after on a cvh, hence no need for expensive swaps. No-one told him not to but asked him simply why and advised him....

This is creeping towards the dump valve debate, lets just put it down to personal preference at leave it there

Now in answer to your original question thelynx your rods are good up until 270hp so i'd say they're fine at 230hp...

Many thanks for the replys guys... And in reference to me losing it!!!!! People are here to advise and share info granted, but in many instances people make their opinion known as the only one that matters... cvh engines are good for decent power I agree.. but why scrutinise somebody for wanting to do something they wanna do, plus its about being individual..

Cheers

no scrutiny intended mate...

sounds like an excellent build good luck with it. And IF in the future you decide you want more power it'll be much easier on the engine you have
