ZOO 4 LINK KIT For ESCORT MK3/4!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
bought new fast ford mag(DONT ASK!) and they did a really good feature on ZOO MOTORSPORT!! they advertised that they make 4LINK KITS for mk3/4 escorts for £300!!! . i have avo coilover kit fitted to mine, this means i still have seperate dampers and shock fitted to rear.(this is how they come. If i buy the 4 link kit,are they adjustable because my car is very ow and has some major camber on the rear wheels and want to rectify this....also by fitting the kit does it mean i can convert my rear avo shocks to COILOVERS by using one of those DIY kits from some of the companys that advertise these products in CLASSIC FORD MAG?? I will obviously fit the same poundage springs as fitted to the front coilovers.if my plan will work it will make me very happy as this will allow full adjustment of my suspension!!!!!!!! the only thing i can think of which might cause some headaches with me doing this conversion is clearance of the rear COILOVER Springs and the wheels(fouling)???? Has anyone already done the conversion. Also does anyone know if ZOO make adjustable Tie bars aswell and how much they are. cheers

I'd guess that making your own rear coilovers would be possible, cant say I've seen the type of kit that you mention though. Id have thought there would be a lot of issues to consider and it is likely to take a fair few atempts to get right. Is it worth trying or simply buying kit thats known to work?
I cant comment on the Zoo product as I havent seen it, I run MEF rear link kit which does allows full adjustment and would allow you to address & rectify your camber issues.
You refer to fouling issues, certainly with the MEF coilovers & the Leda coilovers there is no fouling however Im sure loads of man hours have gone into ensuring this. With the MEF kit in particular spring poundage has been well and truley tested so you know you arent going to have to mess about with various rates of spring.

The red one does (oli's) - they grey one (tims) has Gaz
The difficulty with converting your own rears rightstuff is the coilover conversion tube bodies are generally too big (mm wise) for the standard rear ford strut. If you can get them to fit you will then need to source a STEEL top mount as the aluminium one supplied will be no good (bottom spring pan will be fine in aluminuim).
This is a mod we did ages ago (early 90's) which worked for a while, but only by running it you find you need STEEL top mounts and then the strut tops will need strengthening with extra welds.
I can see your after coilovers for the rear on the cheap so you can get a 4 link kit which will deffinatly sort out your camber issues.
My (old) full rear set-up....
Brom does do all the adjustable stuff yes, and so do we
Ours come powder coated, and all the arms are plastic sleeved for protection, and use race quality rose joints (as Brom will im sure )
PS.
I run 40mm inverted pistons on the rear as can be seen through the spring, I think the Gaz are 10 or 12mm. If you convert your own with coil over sleeves you will also have 10/12mm rods.
For highspeed cornering or fast road we are not too keen on this from testing

Well obviously to run the 4 link kit you need coilovers. It is possible to convert your AVO's with the conversion bodies but from experience its not the best way to go about it. As I said earlier if you go this route you will need strengthened top mounts and / or modifications to the strut tops, as obviously the standard shocker is not designed to be a true coilover.
You will generally find the conversion bodies are 50mm and the standard Ford strut is 42mm (from memory) so it will not centralise and rattle round making it totally unsafe in corners etc.
What do you use your car for ?
Some info on our stuff is in my sig picture if you click on it.
Not the cheapest, but its all well proven and is used by actual rally and race teams across Europe, not just sold by preperation companys wanting to sell you something that isn't fit for your purpose.
We have in the past supplied a bush to fit over a std strut, to then accept the conversion body. These are individually made on the lathe from 50mm bar and are therefore not cheap as we have to do 6, all that is added cost which in my opinion is better spent on buying something correctly designed to do the job rather than modifying something that isn't.
At the end of the day its your money and your choice though

cheers for the help and info mate. To be honest, the car will only be used on the road due to me spending so much time and money into it that i dont want to increased the chance of me smashing it up!!!!!! i just want the suspension full adjustable so that it holds the road a little bit better.once again cheers mate

Not a problem, Is all this fabricated stuff necessary for a road car I ask myself ? It will certainly help you with geometery settings yes, but won't necessarily make you drive any quicker.

no it wont make it quicker, but drive nicer as my car is VERY low,and drives like a bag of shit due to excess camber etc......plus the roads are crap by me so i want as much tyre to tarmac as i can get...
