Default Mapping

My car is now due a 'check up' after the running in miles and various oil changes, so am going to get it re-mapped to make sure everything is ok with the car, but the prices i am being quoted by one particular tuner is horrendous and am not prepared to pay such an amount after paying out nearly 9k for my engine and as im possibly going to sell the car in the near future, i dont want to be throwing money away but want it done properly for the future buyer in the same light...

Is this me being a tight arse, what sort of prices would people normally charge to map a Cossie ? I know it depends on time taken but surely, its not that much !! ?

Cheers

So you pay nearly £9k for your engine and yet you won't get it mapped properly as its too much money.

all the mappers do it properly too, just that people prefer different ones.

No, not quite.

I will get the car checked, only need the lambda connecting up to see boost and fuel ffs, how that costs me what i have been quoted is ludicrous, even the engine builder is rather surprised at the price which speaks volumes

Why does a remap make sure everything is ok? But seriously, you're not helping people decide on whether you've been quoted a ridulous or reasonable sum. After all if you just are after a minor bhp upgrade why bother with a custom map or if you are after the all singing all dancing biggest bhp Cossie ever to see the light of day you should expect to pay top dollar for it. Why don't you phone around a few of the tuners and see how their prices compare?

Ok, maybe re-map was a poor choice of word, set-up is better.

Its not for me to decide who pays what for there mapping / setting up, all i wondered is what sort of prices people charge for a set up, that was all i was merely asking.

I have of course called a few other reputable tuners, some of which were very helpful indeed, others would not entertain the car due to them not building the engine, which i understand completely.

Regardless, im booked in now for next weekend with someone who will not rip my arms off and still do the same job.

Hmm, so it sounds like all you are after is a rolling road session to set the boost and check the fuelling is all OK. My experience has been a couple of hours at £50 (plus £20 more for 4wd) per hour upwards.

Trouble is Bob, should anything happen to my engine, apparently it wont be covered as it is not the original mapper, not that i suspect that another tuner will blow it up, more for peace of mind i suppose, but thats a risk im willing to take.

I would question the validity (legality) of this. Unless you entered into a contract with the original mapper that they are the only ones that can do the post running in set up then what they have sold you must be fit for purpose and I cannot see the difference between the engine going pop whilst being out on the highway or on a rolling road. I assume that you haven't been using a 'running in' chip?

I believe its a 'base map' but you are correct, nothing was said about having to use the original mapper, i just wanted to because of his reputation and to keep everything sweet, oh the joys of motoring

As Richie has stated he doesnt WANT a FULL live map... his engine was mapped at boost levels on a dyno, it needs "checking" incar on the road to check car efficiency and "off-boost" driving, part throttle, idle etc needs setting up ....

Unfortunatly I am in the same position and feel I have been misled somewhat regards cost/fees (I HAVE pointed this out to the parties involved )

BUT now I'm dealing with Ahmed and Mark at Grove hopefully things will start to get better... To say Monday and Tuesday were nightmare days would be an understatement ROFL

ROFL Nope... had a few issues with 1 pin on the Pectel loom being placed in a particular position for a 8 injector car... wether thats the fault of the person who ordered it (NOT me) or the person who made it is unknown...

But I have to foot the bill

That was causing issues with the TPS signal ... which has had to be renewed

I have to foot the bill

The phase sensor it would appear hasnt been working since I put the engine in the car.. Unfortunatly I wasnt renewed when the engine was built??

So I have had to buy a new one...

Finally after going back a second day Mark and Ahmed took the car out to fettle off boost etc but also check full boost

they returned after an hour or so .... to tell me the wastegate arm must be £cuked as it isn't making enough boost quick enough...

SO I have t take the turbo off to see if thats the prob and if it is go from there... time will tell if it gets sorted under warranty

Cripes, at least you know what you have to do to get it sorted though.

Did it feel like it wasn't driving too well or did it feel fine ? Mine is driving faultlessly apart from maybe a little bit too much boost in 5th, i gave it another oil change Sunday and it seems to have loosened up A LOT.

Im booked in for 11 Feb so i'll let you know how i get on !!
