Questions on doing my head gasket (Any answers!)
I Finally decided to set off doing my head gasket myself on my 95 small turbo escoss, after having three people saying they were going to do it and bottled it and quite short of funds anfter being quoted £800. It took me 5 hours to strip it down last night after pulling my back out
I'm going to send off for a head set (Any ideas on what i'll need to replace as my cars only done 53000 miles)
Is there any thing i need to take in to consideration when i put it back together
Is there any one that knows how to time it up againg as i have been told that i could f**k all sixteen valves (step by step guide)
Is there any need decoking the head and re grinding the valves back in and pollinshig it all. (Ive been told not to fix it if it isnt broken)
Lastly will the head need skimming as the gasket looks pretty fecked and has been leaking boost into the water.
THANKS FOR YOUR ANSWERS AS I AM CLUELESS

Here are a few answers and an for you
Why are you changing the head gasket, if it blew, chances are a head skim will be needed to take out any warping that may have resulted from the blow out.
While the head's being skimmed, it makes sense to have it chemically cleaned which will remove most of the coke, etc... you are on about.
With 50,000 miles on the clock, I'd guess the guides would be a little worn out, so worth replacing then. valves will have to be lapped / seats cut as well.
Might as well do it while it's off, rather than find you need new guides in 10,000 miles
You'll need a new cambelt, usually is worth getting a new tensioner while you're there too.
Your exhaust manifold studs will probably have seen better days, if they are rusty, now's a good time to change them
As for timing it up, I notice you are a Gold Member, check out the technical essay archive area + run a quick search on "timing", if you don't find what you need after that (I would be surprised), then ask again
And yes, you can F**k up 16 valves if you don't time it properly, so either be very careful, or, see if someone in your area can help.
I have just noticed you're in Blackpool and guess what - Stu (Motorsport developments) who runs this site with Pet is also in, you guessed it, Blackpool, not only is he a fountain on knowledge on all things YB, he will be able to supply parts, etc... why not give him a tinkle ?
Hope this helps.
