Default High Idle still

Im still being haunted by a high idle.. around 1700rpm sometime up to 1900 or so. New Idle control valve. I verified the throttle position sensor works and is correct. Also checked distributor gap. The multiplugs behind the headlights seemed clean and no corrosion.

I took off the throttle body and lubricated the mechanism. It was binding a little but its OK now. I verified the butterfly closes completely. Any other suggestions? Its driving me CRAZY! Otherwise the car drives and runs like a dream.

Have you set the base idle? Basically once the car is upto normal temp you should disconnect the iscv and there is a screw on the throttle body that you screw in till the revs are around 950 then plug the iscv back in and that should be it.

Default cool

Thanks for the suggesitons guys! Yes, I did set the base idle exactly as you describe. As soon as I plug in the iscv again it jumps all the way to 1700 or so. argh! The lamba sensor has been giving me shit, I should look into that. I got a new one and installed it but didnt connect the wire yet.. didnt think that would make a difference but Ill give it a shot!!!!

I had this problem with high idle and it turned out to be a bolt had pulled its thread out on the inlet manifild and it was an air leak

Check around the inlet first i think,as i tried everything

I had a similar problem with my large turbo esc cos and it turned out to be the ECT sensor, it ran like a dream after that.

OK Heres what I did. I warmed up the motor, removed the idle control solenoid wire... set the base idle with the screw to 850rpm. Verified O2 sensor as well.
As soon as I plug in the idle solenoid it goes up to 1800rpm. If I disconnect the ECT wire, it made no difference either hot or cold. Any new ideas?
thanks
