I dont think anybody would say the wheels would affect performance! especially iof they were exactly the same size / tyres etc...
You could argue that the bigger / wider the wheel the more grip!
& small wheels allow for better acceleration - correct me if I am wrong?

Wheels make a pretty noticeable difference, as they are rotational weight and they are also unsprung mass. The reduction in weight will allow the spring shock to function a lil better, ie better handling and the reduction in rotational weight will lead to faster acceleration and deceleration. It has to be a decent change in weight to be really noticeable however.

What he just said! Every little bit of weight saved is going to make some (maybe not alot) difference to the performance, it all adds up!

Depends what use there for really doesn't it, if its track use then would it still make a difference, might be wrong but thought that a track surface would be a lot better than the road!

Any avid enthusiast will notice the changes if the weight difference is marginal. Another perk is lighter wheels may end up giving you better fuel consumption as well! .
