Default Escort Cosworth Fuse Box.

Can one of you very nice people help me?

I need to find out the Finis Code for the Fuse Box that goes into a 1994 L reg, Big Turbo Escort Cosworth.

Also, if someone can supply a photo of the top of the Fuse Box where the relays go.....well I'd be your best friend forever!!!!

Thanks very much.

Remember that you need the EXACT same fuse box in your car as was in it m8.

There are different numbers out there as mine had the number 91AG14A073BE.

My mate has got me a brand new fuse box which, according to Microcat is the correct one for my car. But this box doesn't have an outlet for headlamp wash, so basically I'm none the wiser??!!

there are some rumours that is is water that gets in that causes them to die, personally, i just think its the naff contruction and they get dry soldered joints over age as the actual fusebox is quite flexible and is under a fair amount of stress when it is populated and clipped up where it should go.

just realised i should say, fao lillford, mine is a lux BUT doesn't have air con and doesnt have an electric sunroof or heated seats.

Dave,

Terribly sorry m8, I had EVERY damn picture of that fuse box but my HD went a couple of days ago and I lost EVERY BLOODY THING.

From what I can say from memory, it LOOKS the same as mine.

Personally I had trouble with the fuel pump relay connection on the board. The welding was broken so I had tension on the pump but no power.. The problem has been solved by simply dismantling the box and renewing the welding.. (All welding with power by the way) then new varnish on board..and back on the car!
Cost: 3 hours of work..for many years of happiness... so try this before supplying a brand new one...

The saga continues.........
I've fitted a brand new fuse box to the Escos now at a cost of £220!!!!!
I realise that's rather steep but the good news is........everything works!!!!!!
I now have a fuel pump which turns off after a few seconds after the ignition has been turned on, headlamp washers that actually wash headlamps and a heated front screen that works!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm a happy man!!

Thanks to everyone that gave advice on this thread especially Dave who posted much needed piccies!!!

as im having a couple of probs with my car im looking in to all the options and thought this info might help. im looking into getting a new fuse box. The no. of the fuse boxes listed above are different to mine so there is another type. fuse box no. is 91AG14A073BBD it is £132 plus vat from ford
I was also concerned about the date on my original fuse box becaue it is dated 1996 and my car is 92/93. I was told by ford that is more than likely i have had a new fuse box put on my car in that year or round about. Also spoke to ian rst and his fuse box was dated 98 ( cheers Ian ) so it's seems the date is just when the part itself was made this should hopefully put a few minds at rest

once youve removed it,unclip the box and take it apart, have a look at the soldered joints using a magnifyinglass if nec and you will see any that have started to bubble or melt, take it to an auto electrician to resolder ,job done, save yourself a fortune

ford sometimes change there prices on parts, cosworth stuff seems to have it's moments of coming down in price or so i was told when i bought my hockey sticks were £90 now more like £75 not much but it all counts. If i end up needing the box with vat i will end up paying £170 ish
so not far off your price

it will probably work any way, but they are protected by different size fuses at the battery end...

I believe one of them is heavier guage wire and as Dave says, there are 2 different fuse sizes at the battery, IIRC 2 60 and 1 80 amp, so the heavier wire will be the bigger fuse... looks from the pics above like the middle wire is the heavier item???

I know it doesnt help much now but I marked mine and my old fuse box before removal...

i did mark mine and took pics of it so that this wouldnt happen but the pics have turned out very blurry and i cant make out which number is on the masking tape.

Looks from my pics tho that the heavier gauge wire is on the bottom connection.

cheers

Just looked at my old fuse box, and you can see it in the pics above.... the waires will only go in one place... well the fat one at least... if you look closely you can see they have plastic tab bits so they wont go into the wrong one!!!! Well done Ford LOL
