Hi Folks,

New on here. Got a 480bhp escos, showing 96'c on the pectel monitor, and it shoots up to 100 or so after sitting for less than a minute, 2 questions really, what should the temps be? and whats the best way of reducing them if there too high as they are?

check for blockage, thermostat new temp sensor (blue) plus pipes, flush rad etc , are you fans kicking in ? if not fuses or relay, ... ???? for starters... has it run hot always or just started doing it ?....... is it using water ?

mine runs hot and has had new everything but never goes in the red and never loses any water... also changed my rad and new fans and switch etc .. guess its may be a dodgy guage....

iirc the thermostat opens at 86 deg ??? maybe wrong... could be a little higher.....

Its got circulation as far as i can tell, heater blows hot so i assume stat is ok? ive not long had the car, its prob always been like it, but i just thought 100'c was just that bit too hot!

if it has the standard fan temp switch, then you can have temps as high as this
its a 2 stage one fan switch, the fan(s) cuts in at low speed at about 98'c and then the high speed cuts in at 110'c
its the way it was designed by ford and has worked well, but to me its two hot to run and so after rebuilding a ecos engine for a friend we decided to fit a saph 4x4 switch and it runs cooler now, the only thing is that they run more frequently but its on the safe side of 100'c,
msd do a moded fan switch to operate just a little higher than the 4x4 one, this is because the thermostat range and the 4x4 fan switch range sometimes work against each other but its not to big an issue and wont cause overheating,

would agree, my fan cuts in around 96c, slow fan but has never got hot enough to run then at full speed. I have also been told about the Saphire switch running at lower temps.
I have never had a overheating problem and would assume its ok as that's the way Ford built it.

this what I did with mine 2wd switch new fans and loom with manual dash switch and normal cut in, but both together not in series....

Mines a standard small turbo Escort Cos & the needle for the temp gauge never goes over half way after a run, even in the summer. No idea what temperature that is but the fans come on & go off as required so if your's does something similar then I doubt you have an issue.

My fans cuts in at 95c, and i never had temperature over 97c. Normal road driving it`s stay stabil at 88c. Standar radiator and fan switch, turbo cooler, new oe waterpump.
This is reading from secs monitor, whit all sensors are new

There is NOTHING wrong with those temps.
I have set mine to come in at 98C and go off at 95C, small span so it cycles frequently but not on long each time, I would not be at all worried with your temps.

Thanks all, gonna go for the MSD fan switch, just ordered an uprated ally rad too. also dropped some "water wetter" in it at the weekend, this appeared to knock a few degrees off, well it did untill the crank sensor decided to die on me!! cossies eh, gotta love um!!

Completely normal for a standard two-speed switch on an Escort. For emission's purposes, the fans try and hold the engine as close to 100°C as possible in traffic. The first (slow speed) comes on at around 93° and the second (high speed) at around 99°.

Fit the Sierra switch or Stu's - both of which are single stage, and it will come on full speed at around 93° and should hold the temp at that in normal use.

Due to the high pressure the cooling system works at (even more so if you have an alloy tank and increased pressure cap), and providing you have a 50/50 mix of antifreeze, the fluid won't boil until well into the mid 120s°C, so 100-110°C on track is nothing to worry about .
