I did that the other week, one came down to my local weekly meet, so walked over to it and got down on my hands and knees to have a look, as i was under it a voice just said yes its a real one, the owner was stood behind me.

When i was young and couldnt afford to run a proper cossie i had a sapphire replica, was a 4x4 to and was spot on to look at,if your doing to do one it has to be exact as there are alot of rubbish ones out there

fI personally think its better for someone who cant afford a real cossy to spend a few grand making a half decent replica than going down the route of buying everything from halfords and having a right sharabang. Insurance is the main problem with getting a cossy

So, another 5k and how much extra to sort out the problems that a rough cossie comes with.
i could sit here all day trying to justfy driving a rep but at the end of the day i've got a fairly quick, good looking car for not a lot of money.
Loved your Fast Ford feature btw mate![Top](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/smile011.gif)

A rough escos is as easy to fix as a rough escos fake as long as the basic mechanics are sound
![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
I can see the point in a fake cos if it only cost a couple of grand, but its cost you almost Ł5k

as i said m8 i had a sierra cosworth and an escort is no diffrent same engines unless im mistaken and u talk to any cossie owner and they will tell u theyve re-built it at some point or another and there always spending cash on them so on that basis they are unreliable thats why every1`s buying jap cars reliability fair play if uve owned urs 8 years and its been good u must have been driving it like a sunday school teacher and as for justifying having a rep no ones justifying it just some of us not as fortunate as others to beable to afford them doesnt make us any worse or better than those that do have them i have nothing but admiration for any cosworth owners im not slatting cosworths or there owners just saying that a replica doesnt cost as much 2 run or repair as a real 1 and u get just as much credit for not even a third of the price no offence intended fella an just to add that is a really nice escos u have

Monster im with you there. Every performance car, especially after 10 years will have problems if not looked after. Really that goes for any car.
The only reason why the YB has a reputation for being unreliable is because they are thrased, not looked after, The boost levels turned up without knowing if its safe, No knowledge of the car, Cutting corners with out asking a tuner for some advice to make it safe and reliable.
Escort Cosworth are not priced for the fun of it. When they are looked after they have good engines which have a lot of potential, cossies can handle double the power easily if modding is done sensibly.
Being in a real Escort Cosworth is completely different to a rep, Its a completly different floorpan. This completly changes the characteristics.

I agree with you lot.I know people who went to jap cars.I lad had an impreza which he put 3 engines in,2 gearboxes and a turbo.Another lad bought an evo 5 he had it 3 weeks and fooked the engine. He rebuilt it and sold it.I used to work on toyota over a year ago and i was there 2 years.I did atleast 50 engine jobs cause the petrol engines burn oil really bad so we had to change the engines,so dont give me that jap realiabilty shite.

tbh i have heard a far lot worse than Aaron said about lookalikeys, to some people who have grafted hard to afford the best cosworth ford made they don't like someone spending a few grand and giving it the bigun.
like i said if steve is the same lad who owned the car at ford fair he is a really nice bloke who's bird was enthusiastic about them too and they both said that they want a real one eventually.
its not worth arguing about really, you like them or you don't.

Cosworths are reliable if you treat them right! mine has never missed a single beat in over 3 years and yes i does get used alot and does get used hard. good ones that are well looked after are as reliable as anything out there. Mark

Reps are totally pointless IMHO, just can't see the point in spending ŁŁŁ on a fake thats no fun to drive, buy a saph instead as they are fucking great cars for the money!
Reps are like having a blow up doll of a fit bird, looks ok at a great distance, but people will think you are a bit sad and they are no fun where it matters

Lets set the record straight a minute, if they are done well then they are replicas. If they aren't done well they are fake tat.
Not sure I am a big fan, but each to their own.
I would rather have a 4x4 Saff than a 1.3 Lookalike at the same cost, any day of the week!

i havent read this whole thread but picked up on this.
my saff i had before my escos had its original engine.running 350 bhp and a true 350 that was used quite hard every day.the milage as many know was 150k.it only ever let me down when the orignal turbo couldnt keep up with the 24 psi i was asking of it.
oh and my missus then was living 65 miles away from me so it was getting alot of milage put on with no probs.except rust
![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
as for the reps, and im not being a snob here. they annoy me.whether its an escort or a ferrari rep. they dont do the genuine thing any favours imo because alot of people cant tell the difference and they then give the genuine thing a bad name.
tbh if i couldnt buy my escos i wouldnt spunk money on a rep,i would buy another genuine saff.

but the 5 door 1.3 shell with shit 15inch crap wheels, dents and dings everywhere, and a really poor spoiler made me laugh at him, i was so embarressed I couldnt even look at him! If anyone mistaken my car for one like that I would be pissed!!!!! if your going to do it, do it right.
Dont go for the Mondeo or the GTi wheels, get the real ones, dont do the outside and foget the inside, dont put a fake dump valve on it, do it right or not at all
