the black rep above does look good and would fool a lot of ppl which is what you want when doing a rep, thats a feel good thing for you guys with the reps.

The only down side to all the reps are..... most ppl when seeing the car assume its a car that is always in macdonalds doing donuts or wheel spins...... someone said to me once, there was a car like yours in macy d's last night wheel spinning up and down the car park....... and for thoughs that have the real thing will know unless your running serious power you wont be spinning the wheels up lol

unreleiable????????? had mine for a year and not put a spanner to the car, and you say sunday driver? i say not taking the piss out of a 15 year old engine. Mycar comftably does 6000rpm all day long going through the gears, not that it does, and hadly ever does. But it can do it, if you buy a sports car and rag the tits off it after doing some mods to it (badly) expect problems.

if you want hassle free fun go for a M powered car, not a Jap car. my engine is on nearly 60k and never been rebuilt, see how many jap owners do 60k without doing some serious work to it I have a M3 euro on 115k, no problems, will go flat out at 150+ all day long, never had any problems what so ever, lovely motor. Much more reliable than all the cars mentioned above

no offence to any jap drivers, just the rep lad bought your cars into it

Please? lol if you were hard core looking for a rep you'd have seen the mk6 door handles and calliper locations pmsl

I like a good rep, relica lad's is a god one and Dub's one is great, I posted pic's of my mates old rep VooDoo who's was used by green light for years on there add campaign

Rep's serve a purpose, for people who cant afford the real one plain and simple, nothing wrong with that either! we aint all got stupid money to spend on cars.

I've had sapph's over the years and love um ive broke a few escort cossy's and always been tempted to keep um lol

no rep will ever come close to a cossy so to try and justify a rep for other reasons than financial aint gona happen.

need more beer

some of you lot are losing me,your saying you can tell a rep cos of the rear windows ???

you could buy brand new from ford escort cosworths without opening rear windows.
if i see a dubious escort i just look under the rear bumper, thats probably the quickest way to tell a fake from a genuine car

I heard that once a lad did a 1.3 escort up to look like a rep cossie, when he called the insurance company up to get it insured they said "it looks like a cossie, and will be stolen like a cossie" priced him silly money on it to get insurance

Yeah, not so bad mate.

georgie1: have a look at the 'show us your wrc kitted escort cosworths' thread on page 3 of the escos room. I only looked at the first page and counted 8 genuine escos with fixed rear quarter windows

rs_traynor: Cheers mate

The reason i built a rep was because i would never be able to afford a genuine one. Its actually based on a mk6 escort with the mk5 cossie kit and other bits changed to mk5 spec. Its running an escort rst engine tuned to a proven 182.6 bhp and 185lbs/ft of torque, and with a few more mods will be capable of more power. I fitted the kit, all the mk5 panels, sprayed it, fitted and wired up the rst engine, rewired the lights and put in an interior, all with very limited knowledge.

Despite having to send it to a garage to get the engine running properly (INFINIT AUTOMOTIVE in Wokingham) i would still get change from 5 grand for the total built, and have a car that looks a bit like and escos.....my favourite car of all time, for a fraction of the cost of and genuine one.

Yeh thats the best way to check for a replica, check to see if it has a rear diff and not a beam axle.

Not really. Its a project thats taken two and a half years to build. i've tried waiting for bargain parts rather than buying everything new.

money tends to burn a hole in my pocket at times so i wouldn't have been able to save up for that amount of time.

tbh its a build that i did for the sake of having something to do in my spare time. i've learnt loads, had good fun doing it, and have ended up with something that i can be proud of that is mostly my own work.

Thats not the best way as it involves getting on your hands and knees

Easiest way is the caliper positions. The front brakes being the first to spot as the fwd escort's have the steering rack bolted to the bulk head so the steering arms come out behind the strut with the caliper mounted forward of the strut. Cossie's of all varients have the steering rack mounted on the front subframe forward of the strut with, you guessed it, the caliper mounted behind the strut Rear brakes, rep calipers mounted horizontaly and real cossie mounted verticaly to the disc radius.

i didnt know that

i say fair play. there are enough parts for these cars now to make up some good reps with out having to use gen parts

Just wanted something a bit different. you just don't see many escort cosworths on the road these days, especially with the wrc kit. Well, not where i live anyway.

Not really bothered about the resale value. I know i'll never get my money back if i sell it as a whole so i'll probably break it when i'm finished with it.

i have seen reps with big brakes and all sorts of things done to position the front wheels centrally.
i like getting on my hands and knees to have a look under cars, you can tell a lot by looking under a car and i like to quickly look under the rear bumper.
i used to do it with mk2 rs2000's and rs mexico's, straight under to see for tramp bars.

You could get a rough escos for £10k so "never" is a harsh word to use. Unless your writing yourself off as unable to save over a few years. A cossie doesnt have to cost loads to maintain and run if your careful.

Positioning the front wheels is easy...dont use gen ford wings. You can fit big brakes but there's no viable way of getting round the front caliper position. Think the ultimate rep would have to be based on a RS2000 4x4 fitted up with a turbo conversion....be shame though as that's a rare car in its own right.

Exactly, he's halfway to a genuine one...

Here is one example:

So, another 5k and how much extra to sort out the problems that a rough cossie comes with.
