We have gone a bit quiet at work now and I may have some spare time to make a mould tool. To make my life easier would it be OK to have some 0.5mm rads as in the pic below? the clip would be a bit stronger this way and the electrodes for the spark eroder would be a lot quicker to make............ as long as it does not give problems with fitting to the car??

I got the clips from Paul via Ebay and they are little bastards to accurately measure so I asked a guy we deal with at work if he could get me some sizes on his optical coordinate measuring machine, I was expecting a sketch with some sizes but he modelled the whole thing in SolidWorks for me . He must have spent hours on end doing this just as a favour
I have made an EXE file that has an imbedded viewer and uploaded it to my webspace so anyone can have a look at the 3D model.
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/rs2300/Trim%20Clip.exe
It needs a couple of small tweeks but is almost spot on
Big thanks to Peter Niel at AML http://www.admould.co.uk/
Edit, don't worry about the EXE file, it's 100% safe and a way that SolidWorks uses to export files. (if you're a Pikey running Windows 98 it might get the hump!)

My side skirts won't fit properly anyway, even with new clips they pop out after few days. I am starting to think about riveting them to the body "rally style" ;(

Clips Now Manufactured
Just after finishing the side skirt clips, and I have now got 2 manufactured. Does anybody know how many is required for the 2 skirts. Secondly would any body like to try the clips I have manufactured to make sure they are good enough for the job. The clips I manufactured are made from abs plastic and are made on a rapid prototyping machine, so they would need to be checked to make sure material is strong enough (which I think it should be) and that the design is correct as I can make alterations.
If I only new how to upload images onto here I would show pictures of them.

Email me the pics and I will put them up, or you can go to photobucket.com and link the pics from there. The original clips are made from acetal. I don't know that much about the various forms of rapid prototyping, the SLA's we get at work are very brittle and SLS? stuff is stronger but lacks the detail.

Picture of Clips
This plastic would be as strong as acetal, just the resolution leaves a textured surface however in my opinion it is more than suitable as a replacement for this clip. But if you think its not suitable then its no big deal, the machines are here and I can rattle off as many clips or other plastic items (possibly metal items soon) as is required. Its up to you guys, I'm might have a go at taking the skirts of my ECOS and trying the clips for myself. If nobody else wants to try them.

I see there is a couple of sets on ebay for sale, be interesting to see what the finish price will be as last set I seen went for nearly £100.
The latest on the clips I make are that i'm going to try them hopefully this weekend on my ESCOS. Then when i'm confident that they are suitable then i'll be able to make as many that is required.

They are all availible from ford apart from the rear clips. 16 are a shocking £1.75 each last time I ordered
Number 17 is M5 a riv nut that you can get anywhere, the funny thing is the part number on fords part system is wrong for this and if you try and order it you get a plastic doorcard clip whats even funnier is the cosworthshop guy on Ebay that sells the plastic door card clips as part of the set

There is a few people on this forum going to try the first few sets to make sure the design and the material work. Although they are to get back to me with there addresses so I can post the sets.
As for how long it will take to make, all depends on other work running on the machine, as this work pays the bills. But i'd expect if you order a set I should have them in the post within a few days.
As far as cost goes the cheapeast that I can supply them for is
14 clips (set for two skirts) for £42 + postage.
I'm trying to put more pressure on the supplier of the plastic to reduce his cost and if he comes down i'll bring the cost of each clip down relatively. I didn't get involved in making this clip to make money as i'm a passionate ford fan and love my cossies. If I can help by solving the problem of these clips then, I'll be happy at that. So the cost above is what it costs for the plastic and to run the machine.

So what do you's want me to do, do you just want the 4 back clips supplied and you can purchase the rest from ford. Or do you want me to manufacture the complete set front and back.
