Default Sorting out my Escort

Bought my Escort last year. Looks mint in this pic but its not, but it will be.............

First job I had to do was replace the tank straps as they were fooked. This led to me also replacing the sender unit and fuel pump.

There was a small amount of surface rust under the tank which was buzzed down, treated and painted

I knew the car needed work when I bought it but decided to use it for the summer, bad mistake!

The battery tray had been dogged to death and the battery shorted on the bonnet and caused a major wiring loom melt down.

Luckily The Diva stepped in and sorted out the wiring but then my insurance renewal came in at £1800.00 so it was parked up and left.

Got it up on stands a few weeks ago and decided to get it all sorted out.

The battery tray was knackered so it was cut out completely. The section underneath the tray was also rotted and I have just put a piece in.

Ill be putting the tray in over the next week.

Took the body kit off the sills and found one was pretty bad and needs about 2ft replacing but the other is ok just needing 2 small patches.

Been working on one of the sills and will post some pics when I'm a bit further on and it looks ok........

Plans for the car this year are new fast road suspension kit, poly bush kit, running gear shot blasted and whip the engine out and give it to Rob to give it a bit of a rebuild.

Seem to be quite keen at the minute so will post some more pics in a couple of days

As far as i know you cant buy sills as they were a modified item. Would be great to see someone fabricate them.

I was going to try and repair them bit i've decided to try and do a proper job.

They've only gone in the centres. The front 12 inches are ok and the rear section after the split is ok.

I'll take some pics tomorra but the problem is they have a reinforcer inside the sill.

The floor pan, the inner sill, the rienforcer and the outer sill are all spot welded together at the bottom and make the rail that runs the full length of tha car. Its a nightmare.

Im going to drill out the spot welds and remove the outer sill and repair the reinforcer. Also got a couple little bits of the floor pan to tidy up on one side, then im going to put a section of outer sill back in.

Can you still get genuine mk5 outer sills as the centre sections should be the same.
